Everex CloudBook Max Packs Integrated WiMax

In an attempt to make its sub-compact CloudBook stand out in a crowd of similar-spec Asus Eee clones, Everex has taken the notebook to the next level of connectivity by adding built-in WiMax support. The new CloudBook Max, announced Tuesday, will connect up with Sprint’s upcoming Xohm network, offering wireless Internet access far beyond the average Wi-Fi hotspot.

“Consumers and mobile workers want to experience the real Internet and all their favorite applications with the same high speed and full functionality whether at their desk or on the go,” said Richard Brown, VIA Technologies’ vice president of marketing, in a statement. “The new Everex CloudBook Max paves the way for truly seamless computing whatever your location.”

When it comes to laptops, Asus’ EEE PC set the standard in affordability last year by offering consumers a stripped down machine that would fulfill all of their basic needs without the bloat of a traditional laptop, and with a stripped-down price to match. In the wake of this single machine, many other manufacturers have begun to pile into the ultra-low-cost market, attempting to refine Asus’ formula even further. Chipmaker VIA made one of the first entries with its Nanobook, and other Nanobook-based designs such as the Packard-Bell EasyNote XS and Everex Cloudbook have followed suit. With a $399 USD price tag and widespread availability throughout American mega-retailer Wal-Mart, the Cloudbook could be called one of the most promising in the new breed of subcompact offspring.

Everex to Challenge Asus’ EEE PC

Everex to Challenge Asus

What goes around comes around. After Asus dropped a hot-seller on the ultra-mobile computing market with its EEE PC, an imitation of low-cost PCs like the Intel Classmate, the manufacturer’s success has spawned another imitator to challenge the EEE for low-cost supremacy.

According to LinuxDevices.com, an inside source at budget PC manufacturer Everex says the company has developed its own low-cost notebook, dubbed the Cloudbook. Everex first made waves with the $200 gPC it sold through WalMart, which included its own Linux-based OS, gOS. The Cloudbook will make use of the same Google-reliant operating system to keep both price and system requirements low.

Five Extraordinary USB Flash Drives

USB flash drives are a dime a dozen now a days. They’re cheap to make and generally inexpensive to purchase, especially as flash memory prices on the manufacturer level continue to fall. USB flash drives, for those that don’t know, are essentially portable storage units that you plug into the USB port of a Windows PC or Mac so you can transfer files to and from the drive. Transfer times — especially across USB 2.0 compatible drives — are quick, and you can easily slip the thumb drive back into your pocket once you’re done.
