Peripheral and accessories maker Keyspan has announced its new TuneView for iPod, a combination iPod docking station and wireless remote which enable users to connect their iPod to a stereo or television and manage it from afar with a wireless remote. Nothing much new there—except the TuneView remove offers a 1.4-inch LCD display which lets users manage their iPod content using the familiar iPod interface.

“TuneView is unique. It’s unlike any iPod remote that you’ve used before,” said Mike Ridenhour, Keyspan’s president, in a statement. “TuneView features a color LCD screen that lets you remotely view the contents of your iPod and control playback—allowing you to manage the iPod as if it were in your hands.”

Apex Enters Digital Camera Biz

The company also added DVR capability and TV Guide EPG to its delayed ApeXtreme DVD player/game console, an industry-first device that uses embedded Windows XP to play PC games on a TV. It will be Apex’s first DVR-equipped product.

Shipments of the $499-suggested ApeXtreme, equipped with 40GB HDD, were pushed back to August from April because “it took more work than we expected,” said president Steve Brothers. “PC gaming is very demanding.”

Apex Digital To Offer Portable Media Player

TWICE is reporting that Apex Digital, a company known for their low-cost DVD players, will enter the portable media player arena with a product ready for consumers as soon as next month.

Apex plans to introduce the battery-powered MP-2000 sometime during July at a price of $399. According to TWICE, the device can be used to play music or video transferred from a PC or imported directly from a TV, DVR, VCR, DVD player or stereo system. The MP-2000 will be based on a 1.8-inch 20GB hard drive and feature a 320×260 color LCD screen.
