It’s easier than ever to shoot high-definition video. You can do it with traditional-style camcorders, of course, but also with cameras that also are designed to take still photos — from high-end “digital SLRs” to cameras that slip into your shirt pocket. I’ve got recommendations in all three categories — listed here from least to most expensive. All of these record HD video and have “HDMI” output connections that let you view your masterpieces on an HD display.

Creative promises that the MediaBook will be different from the other eReader on the market thanks to added multimedia features like a touchscreen, text-to-speech, and an SD memory card slot. iPod #1 with American Teens, Survey Shows

“In its bi-annual ‘Taking Stock With Teens’ survey obtained by The Mac Observer, research analysts Michael Olson and Gene Munster found that of 518 students, the number of kids owning an iPodhad risen dramatically. 56% said they owned an iPod, compared to 40% as reported in the company’s Fall survey. The next closest competitor in the current survey was Sony, which was chosen by 14% ofdevice owners, followed by iRiver at 7% and Rio at 5%. 17% of respondents said they owned others brands, including Dell and Creative.

But it was numbers of those planning to buy in the near future that were just as interesting: Of the 59% of students expecting to purchase a device within the next year, 70% expect to buy an iPod. While that number was the same in the Fall survey, only 46% of students were looking to buy a device at that time.”

Designtechnica Reviews The iRiver H10

Quote from the review:

“There is no doubt about it, the iRiver H10 is a very attractive player. It is a tad bit taller than the Zen Micro, but it’s also thinner. And where the Zen Micro has a more playful look to it, the H10 comes across as having a more serious demeanor. The review unit iRiver sent us came in Lounge Grey; but the unit is also available in Remix Blue, Trance Red, and Triple Platinum. The 1.5-inch color screen is located at the top of the player and is surrounded by a shiny chrome trim which helps give the H10 a high-end look. The H10 also features a touch sensitive pad much like what Apple and Creative uses in their micro players, but iRiver goes one step further and includes regular control buttons as well. “

iRiver H320 MP3 Player Review

Quote from the review:

“This player is expected to have loads of music on it, with support for basically every popular audio format, and a 1.8 inch 20GB hard drive within — but here lies the biggest problem with this product, the GUI. The interface is just horrid. At first it may be rather easy to find songs, but once you fill the player up there is no hope. I would fumble for minutes to find the right song, while Apple and Creative products can be used while driving.”

Apple Unlikely To Release Cheaper iPods

Don’t count on seeing dramatically smaller or cheaper iPod music players in the new year, despite Internet rumors that Apple Computer will announce them next week in San Francisco.

For Apple Chief Executive Steve Jobs to introduce such a product during his speech Tuesday at Macworld Conference & Expo, Apple would have to either unveil a breakthrough hard-drive technology, begin selling iPods based on the same flash-memory storage cards that many digital cameras use, or adopt a new small drive made by Cornice, a Longmont, Colo., start-up.
