D-Link Gets First 802.11n Certification

The wait for the first 802.11n draft 2.0 products is over. D-Link announced Friday that it was the first company to have its products certified by the Wi-Fi Alliance, which controls standards for wireless networking.

The D-Link Extreme N Router and Xtreme N Notebook Adapter were the first products to get the stamp of approval from the Alliance, although many other competing products are in the chute to follow. Both products are based on Atheros’ XSPAN WLAN technology.

D-Link Debuts Small Form 802.11n Adapters

D-Link said today they are launching smaller form factor notebook ExpressCard adapters and desktop PCI Express adapters with 802.11n wireless technology built-in. The D-Link Xtreme N Notebook ExpressCard (DWA-643) and DWA-556 Xtreme N PCI Express are priced at around $120 and $150 respectively and should be available now.

These two new wireless adapters from D-Link are designed to take comply to the latest draft of the wireless networking standard 802.11n by offering faster connection speeds and a greater connectivity range. They both support network security encryption such as WEP, WPA and WPA2. The DWA-556 desktop adapter also includes three external antennas to provide better performance while maintaining backward compatibility to 802.11g and 802.11b networks.

Vonage Teams with D-Link for Phone Adaptor

Vonage and networking gear company D-Link today announced a new two-line Internet phone adaptor configured with Vonage’s VoIP service. The new D-Link VTA is available now for $49.99, various rebates virtually making the device free for new Vonage subscribers.

The D-Link VTA, said Vonage, powers up to two lines of Internet telephone services and supports features like call waiting, call forwarding and caller ID with name. It also incorporates Texas Instruments’ TNETV1015 VoIP gateway chipset, which Vonage says further enhances the quality and feature offerings of their service.

D-Link Offers Up New Wireless Print Server

D-Link said today they are shipping a new multi-port wireless print server which supports multifunction printers. The new D-Link RangeBooster G Multifunction Printer Server (DPR-1260) is priced at $119.99.

The DPR-1260, said D-Link, offers four USB ports for connecting a USB enabled multifunction or regular printer. An automatic configuration wizard is then run to enable the printer’s functions over a wireless network. This print server has been reportedly tested with over 100 different print models and a web-based interface lets each user on a network scan documents, photos and more directly from their computers.
