MainGear Axess HD Gamer Wants to Frag Your Living Room

High-performance computer maker Maingear has just announced a new expansion to its Axess line of home theater systems, the Axess HD Gamer. The system combines a low-profile design that’s designed to blend in with AV and home theather systems…while bringing high-powered gaming to the big screen…complete with 3D graphics on 3D capable displays. And, the system ships with the Phantom Lapboard so users can game from the comfort of their favorite furniture.

Samsung Introduces The 3D Monitor

Samsung has debuted its 2233RZ monitor at CES, its first 3D monitor, which also has the capability to toggle between 2D and 3D displays.

“More users are enjoying higher performance games and movies using high-performance graphic boards,” said R.A. Atanus, Vice President of Product Marketing at Samsung Electronics’ Information Technology Division. “As entertainment content becomes more available, the need for hardware technology to maintain increasing volumes of software content becomes more important. Combining this new 3D technology with Samsung’s LCD monitor creates an optimal viewing tool – for uses ranging from teaching and using 3D modeling to playing the latest video games.”

Hands-on test of new NVIDIA products

NVIDIA is showing off some amazing new products at CES, starting with the jaw-dropping 3D Vision.

The technology, which we tested extensively in the booth, is amazing because it can be used with any game, requires minimal config, and – get this – actually works. (Samsung has offered a similar tech for some time but it is very hard to config.) In Tomb Raider Underworld, for example, you can see the cruves…of mountains and rocks (natch) in 3D glory. In a demo for a racing game, the shards of glass flick up to the screen in realistic fashion. And, the Guitar Hero game for PC (sorry, no console versions) appears to have life and limb. NVIDIA showed off the tech last year; now it is a shipping product, released today. The 3D goggles come with the software, which is easy to install and use. The driver renders one game image for the left eye and one for the right, a clever and affordable trick.
