Mario Super Sluggers Slams Onto the Wii

Feel like swinging your Wii remote madly around in the air while trying to defeat a yellow, spike-wearing snaggle-toothed monster? Then Nintendo really wants you to know that Mario Super Sluggers is now available for the Nintendo Wii. The game, rated E for “Everyone,” enables players to swing the Wii remote like a bat or use it to make pitches in a Mario baseball game that sees Mario, Luigi, Daisy, and other Mario characters take on Bowser for control of Baseball Island. The game offers single- and multi-player modes, and online baseball cards found on Internet Web sites unlocks features in the games like screensavers and special videos.

Making good on last year’s announcement, Microsoft, Sonata Software, and the Digital Accessible Information Systems Consortium (DAISY) have launched the free "Save as DAISY XML" add-on for Microsoft Word 2007, 2003, and Word XP. The converter enables users to save Open XML documents as DAISY XML, a format that that makes text documents more accessible to blind or visually-impaired individuals, or users with various print disabilities.

DAISY has also released a new version of DAISY Pipeline, a free tool that converts between DAISY XML and DAISY Digital Talking Book (DTB) format.

At the TechEd IT Forum 2007 in Barcelona, Microsoft and the Digital Accessible Information Systems Consortium (DAISY) announced a development project that will create a tool enabling Microsoft Word users to convert documents from Open XML format to DAISY XML, the most widely-used format for users who are blind or print-disabled. The move could be an important development to make documents more accessible for blind and visually-impaired users.
