Nvidia Unleashes New High-Performance Quadro Graphics Cards

Graphics developer Nvidia might be involved in a budding patent bruhaha with chipmaking giant Intel, but that’s not stopping the company from rolling out new graphics cards. Today Nvidia unveiled six new entries in its Quadro FX line of high-performance cards, and a new consumer-friendly Quadro NVS 295 card that has enough oomph to handle two 30-inch monitors…at a price under $100.

“Our mission with Quadro is to help customers solve the world’s most challenging visual computing problems,” said Nvidia executive VP of marketing Dan Vivoli, in a statement. “We learn every day from them and are humbled by their brilliance. The new lineup, with the flagship Quadro FX 5800, sets the stage for the next ten years of innovation.”

Nvidia Announces PureVideo Technology

The addition of PureVideo technology to the GeForce 6 Series of graphics processing units (GPUs) allows for accelerated playback of MPEG-2 and high-definition (HD) video content at home-theaterlevels of quality, resulting in crisp, vibrant and stutter-free video on any display.

Enabled by a dedicated, programmable video processing engine found on the Company’s GeForce 6 Series GPUs, PureVideo technology eliminates the trade-off in quality traditionally associated with video on the PC by executing on an advanced set of algorithms typically found in high-end consumer electronics devices.  PureVideo technology eliminates the need for separate hardware or chipsets and takes the load off the PC’s multi-purpose central processing unit (CPU) to deliver to consumers, high-quality video playback at resolutions up to 720p and 1080i.

Futuremark Unveils 3DMark05

NVIDIA Works With Intel On PCI Express

From NVIDIA’s press release:

NVIDIA Corporation today announced that Intel Corporation will be using NVIDIA’s top-to-bottom family of PCI Express graphics processing units (GPUs), as part of Intel’s PCI Express-enabled chipset launch programs. Intel has purchased several thousand NVIDIA PCI Express enabled GPUs which Intel will be using for:

  • Platform Level Testing
  • Software Development Kits
  • Channel Seed Kits
  • Technical Solutions Training
  • Various demo systems

NVIDIA is pleased to be working hand-in-hand with Intel’s launch teams to bring the benefits of PCI Express enabled systems to end-users.

NVIDIA accelerates PCI Express adoption

“Bandwidth has always been a gating factor for 3D graphics and the PCI Express architecture addresses that issue with high frequency, scalable data paths,” said Dan Vivoli, executive vice presidentof marketing at NVIDIA Corporation. “PCI Express will be a key enabler of cinematic computing because it delivers the high-speed data transfer rates that NVIDIA needs to push 3D graphic technology tothe next-level.”

“The adoption of PCI Express by NVIDIA for its graphics processing units illustrates the benefits that the PCI Express standard provides for graphics applications,” said Randy Wilhelm, vice president of the Client Platform Division at Intel Corporation. “Through working with Intel, on their PCI Express product development, NVIDIA will help ensure that their devices work effectively on Intel’s platforms.”

Nvidia intros new Media Center suite

The Company has added TV tuner cards with built-in MPEG2 encoding to enable higher-quality TV playback, as well as a feature-rich software suite with DVD decoder drivers for Windows XP Media CenterEdition.  With these new products, original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and PC system builders now have access to the most compatible, reliable and complete suite of products for unleashing anew generation of desktop and notebook Media Center PCs.

“NVIDIA is taking a comprehensive approach to its Windows XP Media Center Edition solutions,” said Kevin Eagan, general manager of the Windows eHome Division at Microsoft Corp. “By focusing on key components such as form factors, reducing system noise and expanding end-user control, NVIDIA is developing solid hardware solutions for Media Center that will enhance the consumer experience.”

Nvidia unleashes new Detonator FX

The NVIDIA Detonator FX is based on the Company’s world-renowned Unified Driver Architecture (UDA)—the industry’s only true binary-compatible software architecture. This architecture is built toensure software compatibility and stability, enabling the industry’s most reliable graphics platform.

The NVIDIA Detonator FX drivers deliver significant performance increases and improved image quality, and provide a robust suite of software applications designed to extend and enhance the visual computing experience. Detonator FX provides up to a 30% increase  in 3D graphics performance in real-world gaming benchmarks, and works with the entire line of NVIDIA GPUs— from the brand new GeForceâ„¢ FX GPUs, all the way back to the five-year-old TNTâ„¢ GPUs.

NVIDIA and Electronic Arts form alliance

By supporting NVIDIA graphics processing units (GPUs) for desktop and notebook PCs, including the new NVIDIA GeForce FX family of GPUs, EA is able to deliver innovative and rock-solid gamingexperiences to PC consumers worldwide.

“EA is excited about this relationship as it allows us to continue our long standing relationship with NVIDIA,” said Scott Cronce, vice president and chief technology officer at EA. “Working with NVIDIA’s high-quality GPUs will help us as we continue to enhance graphics performance in our games and produce cutting-edge content.”
