Microsoft Helps Start-Ups

Microsoft Helps Start-Ups

It might seem like altruism, but it’s not, really. Microsoft has launched its BizSpark program that’s intended to give a leg-up to small start-ups by providing them with free software and support .

To qualify, a company must have been in business for less than three years, have less than $1 million in annual revenue and come with the recommendation of a venture capitalist, business network or one of the Microsoft employees around the world working with software developers, known as “Microsoft Champs.”

In return, the start-up receives a three-year subscription to the Microsoft Developer Network and cloud service technologies. So it’s a good deal, but where’s the catch?

CBS has regularly made archived material available to researchers, academics, and other groups, but has had no mechanism in place to offer historic footage to the general public.

E- Business: single-play music on agenda

Experts believe that the technology that makes this possible – known as digital rights management, or DRM – will forever change the way we consume media and software.

Software and media companies continue to push new content security initiatives, each plugging their own version of DRM that aims to protect content from unwelcome eyes. In the near future, e- mails, spread sheet programmes and web-page content alike will be secured with digital locks.

Sun Microsystems plans to roll out new software to protect copyrighted content stored on mobile phones and smart cards.
