Palm’s Biz-Oriented Treo Pro to Hit Sprint on March 15

While smartphone aficionados still eagerly await a firm launch date for the launch of Palm’s Pre, Sprint has tided over less cutting-edge consumers by announcing a date for the lower-profile Palm Treo Pro. The latest Windows Mobile device from Palm from will be available March 15.

The phone will be available through Sprint retail channels on that date for $200, after a $100 instant rebate and $100 mail-in rebate for committing to a two-year service agreement. Palm’s own store will begin carrying the phone the following day.

Lawmakers Eye June 12 DTV Transition Delay

Lawmakers Eye June 12 DTV Transition Delay

Congressional lawmakers are looking at a plan that would push the United States’ transition to digital television back from the widely-publicized February 17, 2009 cutoff date to June 12, 2009, in an effort to give Americans more time to prepare for the switch…and get ahold of $40 voucher coupons good towards the purchase of DTV converter boxes. However, many have noted that delaying the DTV transition could create considerable consumer confusion—since the February 17 date has been widely promoted for over two years—and television broadcasters may incur significant costs trying to delay or re-architect their transition plans in so short a time.

GTA IV Delay Rumors Unfounded

After accidentally kicking the Internet rumor mill into high gear with comments made about Grand Theft Auto IV’s release date last week, Take-Two Interactive chairman Strauss Zelnick stepped in to clarify his remarks on Friday. The verdict: it’s still on track.

The game was originally pushed back from its October 16 release date back in early August, sending fans into a frenzy but reassuring them a release in the second quarter of 2008. That reassurance fell into doubt when Zelnick was asked whether Take-Two was ready to give another firm release date at last week’s BMO Capital Markets conference, which Zelnick said the company wasn’t ready to do yet. In the flurry of over-analyzation  that followed, skeptical fans spun this response into an indication that Take-Two might actually wait for the holiday season to roll around again in October 2008 to release the game.

HP Sued Over Pre-Programmed Cartridges

Hewlett-Packard Corporation has been sued for allegedly including chips in its printer cartridges that instruct the cartridges to stop working on a pre-determined date even if they still contain ink, according to Reuters.

The suit, filed on Thursday by a Georgia woman in Santa Clara Superior Court, alleges that chips inserted into the cartridge to detect the ink level also ensure that the cartridges die on a set date, whether they are empty or not.

The suit seeks damages and class action status, covering all US citizens who have bought an HP inkjet printer since February 2001.

GT4 For PSP To Ship In Spring

“The Spring 2005 date applies to Japan only, with no information being given about a launch date in North America or Europe, where the PSP itself will not arrive until Q1 2005 at the earliest.

Meanwhile, there’s been further speculation this week over the status of the PS2 version of the long-awaited game – with some US retailers reporting that there are strong hints that the game may miss Christmas in North America.”

Why does it seem like Sony always overlooks the U.S. market in favor of the Japanese market? :) This would definately be a blow to those of us that are Stateside, but hey, we have the newer slimmed down PS2 to play with right? Ok, this just plain sucks…

EBGames Lists Nintendo DS At $199.99

A note on the listing informs customers that the ship date and retail price are subject to change, which suggests that EB is making a guess at the figures rather than working on inside information – although it wouldn’t be the first time that a retailer listing has revealed pricing and release date information ahead of schedule.

Analysts widely expect the Nintendo DS to be priced in the $150 range when it launches in the United States later this year, and it’s likely that EBGames is being cautious with its $199 price point – as it offers customers pre-order terms whereby it will match a lower RRP, but does not raise its prices if a higher RRP is announced.

Valve confirms Half-Life 2 slippage

Following weeks of speculation over whether the game will make its release date, which was originally announced at Valve at E3 this year when the game was unveiled, Valve spokesman Doug Lombardi announced last night that the date is officially being pushed back.

A number of retailers, including leading UK retail chain GAME, have been telling customers for some weeks that the game will not appear until mid-November, but until now Valve was adamant that the title would ship in some form on September 30.
