THQ has announce that Company of Heroes: Tales of Valor has gone gold and been released to manufacturing, opening another chapter in the publisher’s Company of Heroes World War II-based real-time strategy franchise. Built by in-house Warhammer and Dawn of War developer Relic Entertainment, Tales of Valor adds three new single-player campaigns, three new multiplayer modes, and a new “direct fire” feature that gives players a whole new level of control in battle—and THQ promises this installment offers the most intense combat in the franchises’ history to date.

Warhammer Dawn of War II Ships for PCs
Game publisher THQ has announced that Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II has shipped for Windows PCs. Based on the popular tabletop boardgame from Games Workshop, Dawn of War II extends THQ’s Warhammer real-time strategy (RTS) and combat franchise by combining both a non-linear single-player game with cooperative multiplayer campaigns via MIcrosoft’s free Games for Windows Live service. Dawn of War II aims to appeal to both RTS veterans and new players by getting people into the action quickly, while also adding destructible environments, new weapons, and shifting stories—and, unlike many RTS games that involve manipulating massive armies and resources, Dawn of War II focuses on small squads an individually customized units.
Dawn of Mana Hits North America
Square Enix has announced that its game Dawn of Mana for the PlayStation 2 is now available at North American retailers. First launching in 1993, the Mana franchise has enchanted players with its mix of myth, subtle touches, and game play; with Dawn of Mana, the game goes 3D, adds cinematic production values, and explores the origins of the legend behind the Mana Tree and Sword of Mana installments.
Sony Consoles Getting Slew of New Titles
PlayStation fans will be able to get their hands on a lot more games in the coming months, promises Sony. The Foster City, Calif.-based company said today it will launch more than 100 titles for its PlayStation 3, PlayStation Portable and PlayStation2 products. The beefed-up second-quarter of 2007 line-up will comprise industry leading franchises as well as new intellectual properties from both in-house and third parties, according to Sony Computer Entertainment America.
“We are excited by the content being developed by our partners, but are also looking forward to launching PlayStation-branded exclusive games created by our own worldwide studios this quarter and throughout the rest of 2007," said Peter Dille, senior vice president of marketing at SCEA in a statement.
Dawn of War: Dark Crusade Due October 9
Game publisher THQ has announced that Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War: Dark Crusade has been released to manufacturing and should hit retailers worldwide on October 9, 2006. Dark Crusade is the second hybrid expansion to the company’s Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War real-time strategy game which is playable as a standalone game.
In Dark Crusade, players can take on all seven races—including the new Necrons and Tau—and fans with the entire Dawn of War series can access new units across each of the game’s five original races, new bonus content, and the ability to utilize all seven races in multiplayer mode.
THQ Releases Warhammer 40,000 Expansion
A new race and other goodies are the name of the game for Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War fans as THQ and Relic Entertainment announced the release of the Winter Assault expansion pack for $29.99. The Winter Assault expansion pack, said THQ, features a new race known as the Imperial Guard. Additionally, new units are included for the four original races and there is an all-new, single player campaign as well as 20 new multiplayer maps. "Our goal with Dawn of War was to bring a new level of action to the genre," said Ron Moravek, general manager of Relic Entertainment. "Winter Assault builds on that goal by immersing players in a deeper strategic experience with new units for single player campaigns and a new race, The Imperial Guard, adding another layer of tactics to the multiplayer arena." Also shipping is a Dawn of War game of the year edition, which includes eight new multiplayer maps, a concept art book detailing the new units in the expansion pack and a rebate for the expansion pack. This version of the game is set at the same price as Winter Assault.
US Gamers Gear Up for World Cyber Games
If you are in New York between September 8 and 10, you may want to make your way to the Hammerstein Ballroom for some video game action. It is from here that the World Cyber Games US Final will be.
This event, now in its fifth year, brings together approximately 184 gamers who battled their way through a crowd of over 40,000. The stakes for winning the tournament are high, with winners getting a part of the $34,000 prize. In addition, they will go on as group Team USA to compete in Singapore in the world grand finals this November for an additional $420,000.
