HTC Touch Diamond Adds 3G, One-Finger Use

HTC has unveiled the HTC Touch Diamond, an update to its popular HTC Touch smartphone. The device packs 3G data capability, the company’s TouchFlo touch-screen interface designed to be used with just one finger, and Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional for enterprise-class communications and integration needs. And the HTC Touch Diamond sports a distinctive look, with gem-like geometric facets and a large, 2.8-inch display.

“Today we mark a new era in mobile phone evolution, an era where beauty and size integrate with uncompromising innovation at broadband speeds,” said HTC president and CEO Peter Chou, in a statement. “The HTC Touch Diamond will make browsing the Web and using Web-enabled applications just as practical and easy to use as making calls.”

Gresso Luxury Phones Get Black Diamonds

When it comes to the world of luxury mobile phones, there’s no doubt that the market thrives on form over function. High-end handsets from Vertu certainly offer a lot in the way of bling, high price tags, and exclusivity, but as phones they barely hold their own with discount offerings from most mobile operators. Nonetheless, there must be a market for these items, because new ones keep popping up on the market.

Mitsubishi Display Breaks World Record

The 5,600-square-foot Mitsubishi Electric Diamond Vision screen, which will be recognized by Guinness World Records at a special ceremony on March 23, is 71 feet tall and 79 feet wide, weighs 50 tons and has more than five million LED lights.

The new display consists of 266 panels that each contains 20 lighting units, resulting in a screen with nearly 5,200,000 LED (light emitting diode) modules that can faithfully reproduce 1 billion colors, and be clearly seen from almost any viewing angle.

The 400,000-watt screen, which will be cooled by 10 fans that move 60,000 cubic feet of air per minute, can be accessed for service via a nine-tiered catwalk behind the display.
