Canon Entry-Level Cameras Get Update

Both the new PowerShot A550 and PowerShot A460 cameras will be available in mid-February and will carry a selling price of $199.99 and $149.99 respectively.

The PowerShot A550 is a 7.1 megapixel camera that features a 4x optical zoom lens and 2-inch LCD screen and features Canon’s DIGIC II image processor. Those of you looking for bargains on the aging PowerShot A530, may want to hold-out for the new A550 which touts a larger screen, higher resolution (7 Vs. 5 MP) and even better battery life.

Canon Adds New PowerShot A-Series Cameras

Canon yesterday rolled out four new cameras for their PowerShot A-Series. These cameras – the PowerShot A700 ($349.99), PowerShot A540 ($299.99), PowerShot A530 ($229.99) and PowerShot A430 ($179.99) – should all be available in March.

Features in common across the six-megapixel A700, six-megapixel A540, five-megapixel A530 and four-megapixel A430, said Canon, include the company’s DIGIC II imaging processor, a USB 2.0 port, a widescreen 16:9 ratio resolution setting for taking panoramic prints, 29 languages and in-camera photo touch ups. Highlights of the A700 include 22 shooting modes, ISO equivalent speed ratings ranging from 80 to 800 and a 2.5” LCD, while the A540 sports 4x optical zoom lens and 2.5” LCD, among other features.

Canon Adds New Digital SLR

Canon yesterday unveiled a new digital SLR. The new EOS 30D Digital SLR will be available in April in body form only for $1,399, as well as kit form with the EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 II zoom lens for $1,499.

The EOS 30D, said Canon, is targeted towards the mid-range of the DSLR market. This model combines Canon’s DIGIC II Imaging processor with an 8.2-megapixel APS-C size CMOS sensor. The features of the EOS 30D include five fps shoot capability, a shutter rated up to 100,000 cycles, a 2.5” LCD, a spot metering function with covers approximately 3.5 percent of the viewfinder area, a burst rate of 30 consecutive frames in JPEG L/F mode and 11 consecutive frames in RAW mode, an initial startup time of 0.15 seconds, a single shot AE/AF lock, a 9-point Wide-Area AF system and direct print and direct download functions.

Canon Offers Up New Elph Digital Cameras

Canon today unveiled three new digital Elph cameras which the company says maintains “the petite profile that has characterized the line since its inception while adding big new features”. These new models are the PowerShot SD700 IS (April – $499.99), PowerShot SD630 (April – $399.99) and PowerShot SD600 (March – $349.99).

All three models, said Canon, sport a newly designed six-megapixel image sensor. The PowerShot SD700 IS includes features such as image stabilization, a f/2.8-5.5 4x optical zoom lens and a 2.5” LCD screen. The PowerShot SD630 offers up a retractable 3x optical zoom, 3” wide-viewing angle LCD screen with adjustments for 15 levels of brightness and a touch control dial to scroll through captured images or menu settings. The PowerShot SD600 also has a retractable 3x optical zoom and 2.5” LCD screen with 15 adjustments for brightness.
