HP and RIM Partner on BlackBerry Printing and Management

Despite Research in Motion’s recent push into the consumer smartphone sector, for years BlackBerries have been the perferred smartphone for corporations, enterprises, governments, and an assortment of other white-color organizations. Now, RIM is partnering with Hewlett-PackardP to fortify and enhance BlackBerry use in large organizations. The deal will include the development of HP CloudPrint for BlackBerry—which will enable users to print via a BlackBerry via the Internet—and a host of BlackBerry management tools aimed at letting enterprises control and manage roaming herds of BlackBerry devices. RIM has also taken the wraps off BlackBerry Enterprise Server 5.0, which adds a raft of management features aimed at large organizations.

DVR pioneer TiVo announced today that it has added the ability for broadband-connected TiVo subscribers to order Domino’s pizza for either delivery or pickup directly from their television sets via TiVo.

No, really. We didn’t just make that up.

Sprint Mobile Email Does Exchange, Domino

Mobile operator Sprint, struggling to hang on to subscribers as it invests in rolling out its much-touted WiMax mobile broadband network, has announced Sprint Mobile Email Work, an extension of its existing mobile email service that will enable users of consumer-oriented non-PDA phones—like the iPhone-competing Instinct—to tap into corporate email systems as well as end-user email accounts like Gmail, Windows Live, and Yahoo Mail.

Texting For Pizza

The Papa John’s pizza chain has rolled out nationally a new service that lets customers order their pizzas by text message.  

It’s the next step for the company, which has already found that 20% of its sales have come from online ordering.

Customers have to create an initial online account, including four favorite orders, payment preference and a delivery address, according to CNN. Oncethat’s accepted, customers can text in which of their favorites they wish to order, and Papa John’s responds with a query. Once the customer has sent a confirmation, the order is preparedand delivered.

 "Our vision is that you can order a Papa John’s pizza anytime of day or night — wherever you are," Nigel Travers, president and CEO of Papa John’s, told the network.

A long-time favorite mobile solution with enterprises and large organizations, Canada’s Research in Motion has announced BlackBerry Professional Software, a new package of wireless offerings targeting smaller businesses and supporting up to 30 wireless users.

“Productivity and flexibility are obviously important for small and medium-sized businesses,” said RIM president and co-CEO Mike Lazaridis, in a statement. “We know that the majority of these businesses are interested in a wireless solution, but many have been waiting for a server product that can afford greater IT simplicity while still allowing a superior quality of experience for users.”

Palm to Add BlackBerry Software to Treo 650

Palm, Inc. and Canada’s Research In Motion have announced they’re working to put BlackBerry Connect software on palm’s Treo 650 smartphone, and hope to have the combined product available to consumers in early 2006.

“Treo 650 has earned accolades as the best fully featured smartphone available, and we’re thrilled to make it even better by answering customer requests and offering RIM’s BlackBerry email solution for businesses,” said Ed Colligan, president and chief executive officer of Palm, Inc.

BlackBerry Subscribers Top 3 Million

BlackBerry subscribers reached the one million mark in February 2004 and doubled in less than ten months, reaching two million subscribers in November 2004. The surge to three million subscribers demonstrates the continuing momentum and expanding market opportunity for RIM and its partners.

For corporate customers, BlackBerry Enterprise Server software tightly integrates with Microsoft Exchange, IBM Lotus Domino and Novell GroupWise and works with existing enterprise systems to enable secure, push-based, wireless access to e-mail and other corporate data. For individuals and smaller businesses, BlackBerry Internet Service allows users to access up to ten corporate and/or personal e-mail accounts (including Microsoft Exchange, IBM Lotus Domino and many popular ISP email accounts) from a single device.
