Although the device has been expected for some time, today South Korean electronics giant Samsung officially announced its Samsung R1 media player, a followup to the Q2 it introduced earlier this year. The R1 offers a slightly bigger touchscreen, at 2.6 inches, and also roll in support for DivX video and a “Beat DJ” feature enables users to add their own voices and sound effects to songs—just the thing to entertain (or really annoy!) your friends when you hook it up to a stereo system.

The Kindle DX, Sold Out Already
It’s obviously the must-have device of the moment. According to reports, Amazon has sold out of the first batch of its new Kindle DX e-book reader in just three days. The company is still taking orders and expects to ship more of the units tomorrow.
Amazon began taking orders for the DX on May 6, the day it introduced the device, and it’s now the second most popular piece of electronic gear on Amazon, after the Kindle itself.
The DX is the larger cousin of the Kindle, with a 9.7” display, as opposed to the 6” of the original, showing that size may well count. It’s selling for $498; the original Kindle is just $359.
Sony Debuts ‘Electronic Ink’ With Librie
The Associated Press has reviewed Sony’s new Librie e-book reader, a 7-ounce device that measures 8-inches by 5-inches and offers an 800×600 pixel resolution.
According to the article, the LIbrie “fits in your hand much like a paperback and runs on four AAA batteries that last for 10,000 page turns. Except for being slightly gray instead of white, the display has no backlight and the characters don’t fade even in a bath of reflected light or with the reader tilted an angle.”
