In a somewhat unusual move, Kodak has taken the wraps of its new EasyShare C180 digital camera, an entry-level point-and-shoot system featuring a 10.2 megapixel resolution, a 2.4-inch LCD display, easy YouTube uploading, and a suggested price tag of just $119.95. The catch? The EasyShare C180 won’t be available until August 2009…making the product’s announcement something more akin to a prophecy in the fast-moving digital technology industry.

Kodak Expands Easyshare Camera Line
At this year’s PMA show, Kodak has announced four new additions to its Easyshare lineup of consumer-oriented digital cameras, including two mid-range shooters with high ISO sensitivity, big optical zooms, and image stabilization, and two budget-friend entry-level cameras.

The Z712 offers a 7.1 megapixel resolution, 12× optical zoom lens (36–432mm equivalent), and optical image stabilization. Kodak says the Z712 offers “best in class” click-to-capture performance of just 0.26 seconds, and the camera sports ISO sensitivity up to 1,600 (3,200 if you’re willing to drop to 1.2 megapixels). The Z712 sports a 2.5-inch LCD viewfinder, 32 MB of internal memory (and stores images to SD/MMC cards), and can capture VGA-resolution video at 30 frames per second. The Z712 should be available in April at a suggested price of $299.95.

The unit also features 1 2-inch LCD viewfinder display, 32 MB of internal memory and expansion storage via SD/MMC memory cards, ISO sensitivity up to 400 (through it’ll creak to 800 at a 1.9 megapixel resolution), 18 scene and 3 color modes, QuickTime video capture (VGA at 10.5 fps, QVGA at 20 fps), USB 2.0, and AV output via NTSC or PAL.
