Iomega Gives Portable Storage an eGo Boost

Iomega Gives Portable Storage an eGo Boost

Storage vendor Iomega has announced a new generation of its eGo Portable Hard Drives, featuring a new streamlined look and capacities up to 500 GB. The new drives are available in four different colors (varying by market), although it looks like the Ruby Red model is the one most likely to top out at 500 GB, and is also available in 250 and 320 GB capacities. Other colors seem to be available in 320 GB capacities.

Iomega Debuts Two New eGo Portable Drives

Storage vendor Iomega has rolled out two new portable hard drives designed to appeal to road warriors who need a little something extra besides raw storage capacity and a USB port. Iomega’s eGo Encrypt Portable Hard Drive offers hardware-based encryption to make sure all data on the drive is protected from unauthorized access, while the eGo BlackBelt Portable Hard Drive offers extra resistance to the bumps and shocks of portable computing with Iomega’s Drop Guard Xtreme.

"Adding two exciting models to our eGo Portable Hard Drive lineup is an embarrassment of riches when it comes to having the most rugged and stylistic portable drives in the marketplace today," said Iomega VP of marketing Peter Wharton, in a statement.

Super-thin notebook computers like the MacBook Air might be all the rage with travelers and other folks who scrutinize every ounce of gear they have to carry…but storage vendor Iomega doesn’t think that means they haev to go without portable hard drives for storage. The company has just announced its new eGo Helium portable hard drive, which packs 320 GB into a case measuring just 0.63 inches in height and weighing just seven ounces . And it runs off bus power and is conveniently styled to closely match the look of the MacBook Air. Coincidence? We think not.

Take an EGO Dip with Your iPod

If the thought of leaving your precious iPod behind for even a few minutes while you take a shower, relax in a pool, or hang out on a boat is just too much to bear, the Atlantic Inc. wants you to know its EGO ice and iceBar2 waterproof cases for the iPod are now available from retailers like Best Buy and Bed, Bath, and Beyond.

"The EGO line of waterproof speaker cases allows iPod owners to enjoy their favorite music and videos in practically any setting," said Atlanitic Inc. COO James Dardashti, in a statement.

Does Iomega’s eGo Drive Hold Vodka or Data?

Proving that nothing screams “luxury” quite like thinly masked alcoholism, Iomega rolled out its new leather-wrapped eGo drive on Thursday, which looks, well… like a flask. Although meant, as Iomega puts it, for “displaying panache in the boardroom,” a glimpse of this eGo in your laptop case without explanation might just have the execs you hope to impress dragging you to an AA meeting.

Sporting the unmistakable curved profile of everyone’s favorite covert drinking vessel, the eGo packs not vodka, but a 2.5-inch portable drive with 250GB of storage. It’s also powered solely by a USB 2.0 connection, so there’s no need to bring along a blocky power supply, and Iomega claims its DropGuard technology keeps the drive safe from falls up to 51 inches.

Iomega Boosts Its eGo Portable Drives

Storage vendor Iomega has boosted its eGo line of portable hard drives just in time for Macworld Expo, pushing capacities out to 250 GB and adding a dual USB 2.0/FireWire 400 interface for connecting to a wide variety of systems.

Iomega originally introduced the 250 GB, dual-interface eGo drives at last September’s Apple Expo in Paris, but is finally bringing the drives to the U.S. market. The drives will be available in black, cherry red, and alpine white enclosures, in an effort to bring some style to external storage devices. "With the eGo Portable Hard Drive, Iomega shook up the industry by introducing fashion to a world previously known for little gray and black boxes," said Iomega president Tom Kampfer, in a statement.
