Syntax Debuts New LCD TV’s

From the press release:

Syntax Groups announced at the iSuppli FID2004 conference, its newest Super-IPS-based Olevia 32-inch and 37-inch LCD TVs, plus immediate holiday availability of the Olevia 50-inch LCOS projection TV.

Expanding on the Syntax Olevia’s breakthrough value to performance ratio, the HDTV-ready 32-inch (LT32HV) and 37-inch (LT37HV) LCD TVs feature the newly-designed, stunningly-attractive black and charcoal bezel to frame the space-efficient LCD TVs’ high-quality, flat panel displays, optimized to provide sharp, vivid digital entertainment images from analog and digital TV signals, DVDs, VHS and video games.

Researcher Predicts Shortage Of Flat Panels

According to a CNET News.com report, a study released by the El Segundo, Calif.-based company foundthat large, TFT-type LCDs will be much in demand because of increased spending associated with the holiday season. iSuppli defines a large screen as one that is more than 10 inches in diagonallength. The use of TFT (thin film transistor) technology generally indicates a higher-quality display.

If the company’s prediction is correct, the fourth quarter will be the first of the year in which demand exceeds supply. The report goes on to say that iSuppli estimates that in the second quarter, supply will have exceeded demand by of 6 percent. In the third quarter, the company said, supply will exceed demand by 5.4 percent.

News Corp. outlines its plans for DirecTV

News Corp. also plans to provide more access to local channels and to high-definition television broadcasts and will introduce new interactive TV services, the company said in a filing Monday with the Federal Communications Commission.

DirecTV is owned by El Segundo, Calif.-based Hughes Electronics Corp. In April, News Corp. struck a deal with Hughes owner General Motors Corp. that would give it a 34 percent stake in Hughes in exchange for $6.6 billion in cash and stock.

The deal is pending approval from the FCC, which rejected a proposed deal last year between DirecTV and its chief competitor, EchoStar.
