Microsoft Won’t Unveil New Xbox In March

“Citing a conversation with Microsoft Research management, American Technology Research analyst P.J. McNealy said the company was more likely to take the wraps off its new console in May at the broader Electronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles.”

A Microsoft spokesman has confirmed the conversation that the new Xbox will not be unveiled at GDC. The Game Developers Conference was where Bill Gates announced their current Xbox a couple years ago.

The new Microsoft Xbox code named “Xenon” is still expected to launch later this year. Chances are that Microsoft would announce their new gaming console at this years E3 (Electronics Entertainment Expo).

Nokia Shows Multiplayer Java Games At E3

Nokia today premiered the first multiplayer Java games based on its SNAP Mobile solution at this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3). Developed together with Sega Mobile, the SNAP Mobile demonstration features multiplayer gaming for Java games, in addition to key community features such as friends lists, presence, and instant messaging. The Sega Mobile game demos are the first example of how SNAP Mobile brings the technology utilized in the N-Gage Arena gaming community to mass market Java terminals.

Sony Talks Up PS3, PSP, And PS2 Products

SCEE president and COO David Reeves has indicated at this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo that PSP games will probably be region-free, that PS3 will be intrinsically linked with PSX and may appear in home server and standalone gaming versions, and that Sony may announce a stripped down, PSone-style PlayStation 2 product.

Nintendo Announces New Portable Game Unit

Nintendo had been expected by industry players to offer some sort of new handheld product this year to compete with Sony Corp’s PSP, an advanced handheld gaming device set for launch by the end of the year. Sony already dominates the console games market with its PlayStation 2.

The company said it would hold back most details on the new product until the games industry’s Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in Los Angeles this May, but said it has already begun talks with game publishers around the world about developing software for the new device.

Miscrosoft cuts price of Xbox

“It will help Microsoft’s audience, but Microsoft is still losing just as much money this year as last year,” said Richard Doherty, an analyst with Envisioneering.

The price cut is just the latest among the game-player makers who routinely cut prices on consoles during the annual Electronic Entertainment Expo trade show, which is being held this week in Los Angeles.

The software giant cut its price to $179.99, down from $199 after Sony said it would sell its unit for $200 – including the modem, which allows users to go online to play Internet-based video games. Sony will sell the console for $180 without the modem.

Microsoft to add karaoke to Xbox

The software, which Microsoft will announce today at the Electronic Entertainment Expo trade show in Los Angeles, is a computer-based version of karaoke. Due out this fall, the product, called Music Mixer, signals Xbox’s anticipated move into family entertainment.

With its DVD drive, Xbox can already play movies. But the new software package, which will come with a microphone and sell for $40, will include songs, photos and a set of graphics effects.

Cameron Ferroni, product manager for Xbox Live, Microsoft’s online gaming service, said teens can use the graphics to create visuals that “dance” with the music, while adults will be able to hold sing-along parties or set music to a family slide show,
