OCZ’s Mainstream Apex SSDs Hit 250 GB

OCZ Technologies has introduced its new Apex series of 2.5-inch SATA II 2.5-inch solid-state drives, offering the performance, power-savings, and stability of SSD drives at price points that will appeal to mid-range computer users…and capacities that would appeal to just about anyone. The new Apex series are available in 60, 120, and 250 GB capacities and sport seek times between 0.2 and 0.3 milliseconds.

“As the adoption of SSD drives continues to ramp, it is our goal to enable everyday consumers to take advantage of the benefits of solid state drives,” said OCZ director of project management Eugene Chang, in a statement.

OCZ Rolls Out Affordable SSDs

Component maker OCZ Technology has decided to get into the solid-state drive business, announcing its Vertez series of SSDs that act as drop-in replacements for standard 2.5-inch SATA-II hard drives…at prices that give some serious competition to other SSD solutions on the market.

“The new Vertex Series of SSD drives are a premium MLC based SSD solution that are designed for consumers that require fast, rugged, and reliable solid state storage,” commented OCZ director of product management Eugene Chang, in a statement.. “The Vertex makes use of our newest architecture and controller design complete with 64MB of cache to offer faster transfers and superior overall system response times in a broad range of applications and games.”

In anticipation of the busy Memorial Day travel weekend when millions of Americans will hit the road, Avis Rent A Car and Motorola today announced completion of the nationwide rollout of “Avis Assist” – a mobile phone-based navigation system now available in 57 U.S. cities.

Powered by Motorola’s VIAMOTO software, Avis Assist gives travelers the ability to bypass unwieldy maps and confusing gas station directions by gaining instant “talking” directions from a Motorola handset, which can easily be mounted in the car or carried in your pocket.
