Finland’s Nokia has inked a deal with Microsoft that enable access to Microsoft’s Exchange ActiveSync email service from Nokia S60 third edition devices—of which there are about 80 million in circulation. Some 43 separate Nokia devices will pick up the Mail for Exchange mobile email application, enabling users to take into their Exchange-based email accounts without having to buy a Windows Mobile smartphone…or a BlackBerry. Nokia also announced it will be putting Mail for Exchange on future E-series and N-series devices. All told, the agreement makes Nokia’s products the largest pool of mobile devices to support Exchange.

Apple Exchanging MacBook Pro Batteries
Citing performance rather than safety issues, Apple Computer has introduced a free worldwide “exchange” program for some batteries sold with its Intel-based MacBook Pro line of portable computers.
Batteries eligible for the program were sold with MacBook Pro systems from February to May, 2006, and have the model number A1175 and a 12-digit serial number which ends with U7SA, U7SB or U7SC. Battery model and serial numbers are on the bottom of the battery: you have to remove it from the MacBook Pro in order to see them. (Be sure your computer is shut down or at least plugged into its power adapter before removing the battery!)
Microsoft to Exchange with Sony-Ericsson
Microsoft announced today that it has licensed Exchange ActiveSync to mobile phone maker Sony-Ericsson, enabling the company’s forthcoming P990 and M600 smartphones to synchronize with Microsoft Exchange Server 2003.
The deal is another step in Microsoft’s larger move into the mobile handset marketplace, and is a benefit to Sony-Ericsson in its efforts to appeal to corporate and enterprise customers. Large organizations increasingly need their mobile users to connect reliably and security with “home base” systems standardized on Microsoft’s enterprise email, contact, calendar, and scheduling systems.
Microsoft adds antispam to Exchange 2003
A new antispam tool allows partners to integrate their antispam solutions with new functionality already in Exchange Server 2003 to provide better content filtering with fewer false positives, further maximizing worker productivity. In addition, the updated virus-scanning API (VSAPI 2.5) now includes new features that enable partners to deliver complementary solutions for preventingcomputer viruses and, more important, helping IT departments maintain a healthy network, allowing administrators to focus on keeping users productive.
“We know customers’ pain. Security and privacy are more important than ever right now and, as an industry leader, we know Exchange and its industry partners have to offer an end-to-end solution to customers that will help fend off security threats at the gateway, on the mailbox server and at an end user’s mailbox,” said Kevin McCuistion, director of Exchange marketing and business development at Microsoft. “Microsoft’s philosophy is to stop viruses and spam at the network perimeter, keeping end users focused on the task at hand. We have provided a solid baseline of functionality in the core Exchange 2003 product, and now with these two tools partners can provide an additional layer of security.”
