Cable operator Comcast has announced it has reached an agreement to acquire online ricket broker Fandango. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but Comcast plans to use Fandango’s services and technologies to help drive Fancast.com, a forthcoming service which will enable users to tap into online video, search for local movies and television programs featuring their favorite actors, and tap into video-on-demand services via the Internet, television, and even mobile phones.

Fandango Brings Movies to Cingular
Fandango today expanded their mobile movie ticketing purchase offering as they formally announced a new partnership with Cingular, the nation’s largest cellular provider. This new relationship builds upon a similar announcement made with Sprint earlier this month.
The new Cingular/Fandango service, said the movie ticketing company, will allow Cingular subscribers who have Web-enabled phones to buy movie tickets, look up extensive movie information including film reviews, look up show times and theater information with maps and get mobile alerts when tickets for upcoming movies go on sale. Users can also use text messaging and voice activated commands to access some features of the mobile Fandango offering.
New Potter Movie Making Huge Fandango Sales
Got your Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire opening night movie tickets yet? If not, you might be out of luck as online movie ticket purveyor Fandango said today they are seeing a huge run on advanced ticket sales as the movie’s Nov. 18 release date draws near.
This run, which the company said is their fastest selling Potter installment to date, accounts for the majority of their weekly ticket sales two full weeks ahead of the movie coming out. It is rivaled however by the last Potter movie, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, which broke Fandango’s hourly, daily and weekly ticket sales.
Fandango, IMAX Tango with New Portal
Like the big screen IMAX experience? What a place to find all of the theatres nationwide which play these types of films and perhaps buy tickets for them online? Fandango and IMAX have teamed to create a co-branded portal specifically related to the film format which is approximately ten times larger than the standard film frame used to show regular movies.
The co-branded portal, which is live now, features move information, showtimes and advanced ticket sales where possible (not all IMAX theatres are tied into the Fandango ticketing system, though links to those specific theatres’ websites are included). The launch of this site comes a week before the release of Batman returns, which opens in regular and IMAX formats on June 15.
