Square Enix Outs E3 Lineup

Though E3 remains days away, Square Enix has lifted the curtain on the titles it will be showing this year with a Friday press release detailing the upcoming show.

New titles include Front Mission Evolved, a third-person shooter based on the “wanzer” humanoid war machine, Nier, an action-adventure game that pits players against a virus, and Order of War, a real-time strategy game set during WWII. Supreme Commander will also see a sequel set to come out in 2010.

FF VII: Crisis Core Release Date Pegged

Fans of the Final Fantasy series and other titles from Square Enix had reason to celebrate on Tuesday when the Japanese developer unveiled firm North American release dates for three new games, along with additional information on a fourth.

Dragon Quest Swords will be the first title to hit the ground on Feb. 26. The latest installment in the Dragon Quest series has been developed exclusively for Nintendo Wii to make use of the unique motion-sensing Wiimote, and will pit players against all the traditional monsters of the Dragon Quest world.

Square Enix Reveals Final Fantasy XIII

Square Enix, developers of the highly well received series Final Fantasy, today unveiled the latest installment in the long running franchise. Fabula Nova Crystallis – Final Fantasy XIII will be available for a variety of platforms, including the PlayStation 3, at an as yet undetermined time.

Fabula Nova Crystallis – Final Fantasy XIII, said Square Enix, is made up of several titles, each based on variations of the game’s universe. In development right now are two titles for the PlayStation 3 – Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy Versus XIII and a mobile edition known as Final Fantasy Agito XIII. Other announcements regarding “other facets of the project” will be made in the future.

Final Fantasy X-2 Moves One Million

Though it hasn’t sold at quite the same clip as its predecessor, Final Fantasy X-2 has moved more than one million units in North America since its release last fall, Square Enix announced today.Worldwide, more than 6.6 million copies of the game have shipped, and FFX-2 has yet to see release in Europe.

Together, Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy X-2 have shipped more than 10 million units worldwide. That makes them the most successful titles in the franchise’s history by a fair margin, with more than 20% of the series’ units moved between them.
