Major Hollywood studios are getting ready to light up the new Epix online streaming movie service this weekend…but consumers who were hoping Epix might give outlets like Netflix or Hulu a run for their money are bound to be disappointed. For now, Epix will only be available to Verizon FiOS customers as an additional $9.99 charge on top of their current FiOS packages…and in an age of Netflix’s and Hulu’s, why would consumers want to go for that?

Technology We’re Thankful For
Friends. Family. Gainful employment. A chance to dig into a big, juicy turkey with all the fixins and (fingers crossed) actually enjoy a full eight hours of sleep courtesy of a Tryptophan coma. These are tops on the list of things we’re truly thankful for this holiday season. But being the good consumerists and high-tech newshounds we are, we also have to give props where it’s really due – to all the shiny new gadgets and lifesaving technologies that let us squeeze 63 hours of fun and productivity into each and every day.
Verizon’s FiOS TV Signs Disney, Woos Fox
Telephone carrier Verizon announced today it has signed a long-term agreement with the Walt Disney Company to provide programming for Verizon’s nascent video and television service FiOS TV, which it plans to start offering in Keller, Texas this week and to as many as three million customers by the end of 2005. FiOS TV’s expanded basic programming will include Disney services ABC Family, ABC News Now, Disney Channel, Toon Disney and SOAPnet, as well as seven ESPN channels. Verizon will also be able to retransmit content of ABC’s owned and operated stations under the agreement.
