Electronic Arts has announced that Battlefield 1943, its latest WWI-themed first person shooter from subsidiary studio Dice, will launch as a download-only game on Xbox Live (on July 8) and PlayStation Network (on July 9) for just $15. The first-person shooter builds on the award-winning Battlefield 1942 and takes players into four Pacific battles (Wake Island, Iwo Jima, Coral Sea, and Guadalcanal). And the game comes with a community challenge for social gamers: to work together on the Coral Sea battle to reach 43 million kills across both Xbox Live and PlayStation Network.

Dell Builds First Sony/Apple Class Notebook
Dell has been known for a lot of things over the years, some not very positive, and most having to do with providing good value for a price. A few years back, they came out with the XPS line. While it added some color, you wouldn’t really call the product sexy, and the folks most likely to want to carry them were gamers with very large biceps.
That just changed, and with their latest announcement, Dell is declaring war on the Sony/Toshiba/Apple class of cool-looking notebooks. Their first shot appears to be as good as the best.
Microsoft Opens Shadowrun Beta for Xbox 360
Microsoft and FASA Studio have announced a beta program for their forthcoming game ShadowRun, which combines elements of technology and magic in an online, multiplayer, first-person-shooter format. The initial beta is for Xbox 360 users, but Microsoft plans to expand Shadowrun to Windows Vista as well. The company promises players will have to "tap into your intelligence and wits, combining the various magic and techs in the heat of battle for an intense combat experience."

Doom 3 Currently Available At Some Stores
Forums all over the Web are full of Doom 3 discussions and some customers are reporting already being able to purchase the highly anticipated game at retail stores. Customers at some Maryland Best Buy stores reported being some of the first to get their hands on a retail copy of the game when the stores let them purchase the game over the weekend.
According to Doom 3 developer id Software, the game officially ships on August 3, with the official “street release” date being August 5 . Retailers and online merchants have been accepting pre-orders for weeks, at around $54 a copy, and apparently some retailers decided to sell the game upon receiving it.
Far Cry Developer Signs With EA
“German developer Crytek has entered into a strategic partnership with publisher Electronic Arts which will see it building a new game franchise for the PC, based on entirely new intellectual property.
The Crytek team recently finished work on the well-received PC first person shooter Far Cry, which was published by Ubisoft; however, the company’s deal with Ubisoft was for one game only.”
There is no word yet on whether a FarCry sequal is in the works or if and when they expect it to hit the market. Now that EA is funding the innovative game maker, we can expect some hot stuff to come out from them in the future. That is, as long as a deadline doesn’t get into the way.

Samsung SyncMaster 192T Review
Quote from the review at Future Looks:
“After using this monitor for a few days, I’m slowly getting to understand all the various features that it has to offer. In using this monitor, I find it to be a great contender compared to all the other 19″ displays on the market. I believe that Samsung has done well with the Dual-Hinge system so that positioning the display is easier to do than other manufacturers who only allow you to tilt their screens.
Things Look Up For Game Industry
Some big-name titles that didn’t make it out in 2003 are instead scheduled for early 2004, and may stave off the burnout that usually comes when a console hits its fourth year, as Sony’s PlayStation 2, Microsoft’s Xbox and Nintendo’s GameCube are about to do.
Having sold approximately 22 million consoles in North America since launching its PlayStation 2 game console, Sony Computer Entertainment dominates the games market. Historically, game sales tend to dip after new generations of consoles reach the four-year mark. This is the time when so many people own the game consoles that everybody who might buy a PlayStation 2 already owns a PlayStation 2. It’s also the time when people start to lose interest, the market reaches its saturation point and consumers lose interest in existing systems.
Activision acquires Call of Duty developer
Activision has acquired Call of Duty developer Infinity Ward a week before the firm’s critically acclaimed World War II-based first-person shooter launches for the PC, the publisher has announced.
According to Activision, the company has exercised an option to acquire the remaining 70 per cent of outstanding common stock in Infinity Ward, making them a wholly owned subsidiary of Activision and adding them to a stable of FPS development talent which already includes Raven Software.
Industry veterans Grant Collier, Vince Zampella and Jason West will continue to manage Infinity Ward, having signed long-term contracts with Activision. Other key employees have also signed similarly long-term contracts.
