Fujitsu Takes Mobile Drives to 300 GB

Fujitsu Takes Mobile Drives to 300 GB

Fujitsu has announced the global launch of its MHX2300BT series of 2.5-inch hard disk drives, with capacities of 250 and 300 GB. The 2.5-inch form factor is commonly used in notebook computers and other small-footprint computers; the new drives usher in higher storage capacities for those systems. Fujitsu introduced 200 GB 2.5-inch drives less than a year ago; like their predecessors, the new drives use perpendicular storage technology (which essentially store bits stacked “on end” rather than laid out in a row) to increase data density on the disc platters.

Fujitsu Ships 100GB 2.5-Inch Drives

From the company’s press release:

Fujitsu Computer Products of America, Inc. (FCPA) today announced the delivery of its next generation MHU2100AT 2.5″ 9.5mm mobile hard disk drive to its industry leading storage channel partners.  Fujitsu’s new mobile hard disk drive offers up to 100GB of capacity and a nearly 30% increase in areal density.

A significantly increased capacity point makes the MHU2100AT hard disk drive ideal for integration into portable PCs and non-traditional vertical markets such as automotive, consumer electronics and industrial applications.  Fujitsu channel partners, such as FireWireDirect, a leading provider of FireWire, Fibre and SCSI Storage solutions, components and peripherals, have found that the MHU2100AT is an invaluable component for applications targeted at users with advanced storage needs, such as mobile and creative professionals.

Fujitsu Introduces First 2.5″ SATA Drive

From Fujitsu’s press release:

Fujitsu Computer Products of America, Inc., one of the world’s leading suppliers of hard disk drives and computer peripherals, today redefined the possibilities for manufacturers in emerging notebook and enterprise storage markets by announcing the MHT-BH. The Fujitsu MHT-BH is the world’s first 2.5″ 9.5mm mobile hard disk drive (HDD) with SATA Extensions that supports Native Command Queuing.

The new Fujitsu hard disk drive will be among the world’s smallest, fastest and most efficient hard disk drives available today, enabling innovation and improvements in everything from laptop and notebook computers, to other platforms and applications.

Fujitsu Tests 3Gb Serial SCSI Hard Drives

The Fujitsu SAS interface leverages the recognized benefits of SCSI with the latest serial technology and Fujitsu expects SAS to become the enterprise I/O interface of choice for the new 2.5″ smallform factor enterprise hard disk drives.  HP’s testing of Fujitsu’s 3Gb/second SAS interface in enterprise solutions is intended to take advantage of reduced form factor hard disk drives and theincreased performance associated with serial attached SCSI.

“Fujitsu is poised to lead the small form factor SAS hard disk drive market due in large part to its relationship with technology innovators like HP,” said Mike Chenery, vice president, advanced product engineering, Fujitsu Computer Products of America.  ”Fujitsu and HP recognize the impact of these hard disk drives on the market.  Fujitsu’s small form factor serial attached SCSI hard disk drives are nearly one third the size of current enterprise hard drives allowing manufactures to build solutions with more disk drives, lower heat dissipation, and lower acoustics.”

Fujitsu Delivers First 2.5′ Serial ATA HDD

Fujitsu’s 2.5″ Serial ATA hard disk drives include Marvell®’s system on chip (SOC) that supports the SATA Extensions (SATA II, Phase I) including Native Command Queuing and 1.5Gb/s performance. Fujitsu’s 2.5″ 5400RPM Serial ATA hard disk drives (HDDs) are intended for use in blade servers, mobile products, and consumer applications.

Fujitsu 2.5″ Serial ATA mobile hard disk drives offer increased performance and reduced power consumption, benefits that are especially important to manufacturers of portable, battery operated products like laptop computers. Fujitsu is able to develop 2.5″ Serial ATA interface hard disk drives at a price point that rivals traditional parallel ATA products due to Marvell’s single chip 88i6535 Serial ATA SOC, which eliminates the need for a bridge chip.  Additionally, Fujitsu’s 2.5″ Serial ATA hard disk drives include Native Command Queuing. Native Command Queuing allows up to 32 instructions to be queued and reordered by the hard disk controller, contributing to significant improvement in overall hard disk drive performance.

Fujitsu announces fi-4530C Color Scanner

The fi-4530C was unveiled at the AIIM 2003 Exposition and Conference in New York City in April and was selected as a “Best of AIIM 2003″ winner by Transform Magazine, which specifically acknowledged its ‘ledger scanning and compact footprint’ as standout features.

The new fi-4530C scanner brings decentralized, high quality image capture to the desktop at a highly competitive price.  Targeting the cost-conscious and performance demanding departmental market segment, FCPA’s Imaging Products Group (IPG) has priced the fi-4530C starting at less than $4,000 U.S. list price.

Key highlights of the fi-4530C include:
