The phone will be available through Sprint retail channels on that date for $200, after a $100 instant rebate and $100 mail-in rebate for committing to a two-year service agreement. Palm’s own store will begin carrying the phone the following day.

AT&T Eternity Packs Touch Screen, 3G

AT&T Eternity Packs Touch Screen, 3G

Giving network subscribers yet another full-touch-screen handset to choose from, AT&T adopted the Samsung Eternity on Friday, also known as the A867. With a 3.2-inch touch panel, 3G Internet, media player and accelerometer, the phone stacks up closely to the iPhone in many regards, but also includes haptic feedback, and a lower price tag.

Much like Samsung’s Sprint-exclusive Instinct, pressing functions on the Eternity cause it to vibrate, giving users a sense of feedback as they make selections. It also has built-in compatibility with AT&T’s Navigator, Mobile Music, and most impressively, Mobile TV, which includes programming from CBS, NBC, ESPN, and Comedy Central, among others.

The Best Free Software Programs

We’ve all heard the expressions “you get what you pay for” and “nothing in this world is free” before. But as any online-savvy computer user can tell you, if you spent some time in cyberspace you might beg to differ.

Literally hundreds of free programs are available (as downloadable software or online-only applications) that are guaranteed to increase fun and productivity, yet won’t cost you a dime. And while these offerings might be as feature-rich as their paid counterparts, you might just be surprised at the scope and quality of the selection that’s out there today.

Instinct Sets Sprint’s 3G Sales Record

Instinct Sets Sprint

As anyone who has kept an eye on cell phone news for the last few months can attest, Sprint managed to drum up a fair amount of hype for its own iPhone competitor, the Samsung Instinct, prior to its June 19 release. And as the carrier revealed Thursday, it seems have paid off.  In the week since it launched, the Instinct has become Sprint’s fastest-selling 3G phone ever, leading to shortages all over the country.

Acer Aspire One to Sport Intel Atom, 3G Web

After months of heavy speculation about a new ultra-low-cost PC out of Acer to be dubbed the Aspire one, the Taiwanese company came through on Tuesday by revealing full specs on the machine that are sure not to disappoint rumormongers. The latest Asus Eee competitor will be among the first to use Intel’s new Atom processor, will support 3G Internet access in the future, and will ring in well under $400 in its cheapest configuration.

The $10 Cell Phone

The $10 Cell Phone

In an age where manufacturers routinely release do-it-all phones for hundreds of dollars without consumers flinching, one company is attempting to do the opposite, cutting features – and price – to the bare minimum. Hop-On’s new Hop1800, announced Friday, has no Wi-Fi capabilities, no 3G Internet, no texting, no alarms, and not even a screen, but it costs just $10.

Designed to be used as a prepaid phone, the GSM-capable Hop1800 was engineered for just one purpose: making calls. Although it lacks all the extras, Hop-On claims that a simple tactile keypad with Braille markings and Infineon chipset for call quality ensure it does that one function very well. Weighing in at just 77 grams, it also beats many conventional phones for portability, and offers an impressive 4 hours of talk time, or 150 hours of standby.

Samsung Glydes out 3G Touch Screen Slider

If the last year of cell phone development seems to have taught manufacturers anything, it’s this: Touchscreens are great for simple navigation, but when it comes to typing and texting, nothing beats a full QWERTY keyboard. So goes the logic, we think, behind Samsung’s latest slider for Verizon, the SCH-U940 Glyde. Like the LG Voyager and upcoming Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1, the Glyde combines a large exterior touch screen with a full slide-out QWERTY keyboard in an attempt to offer the best of both worlds.

Garmin Nuvifone Challenges iPhone

Garmin Nuvifone Challenges iPhone

GPS manufacturer Garmin sprang out of left field on Wednesday with an unexpected entry in the mobile phone market that will challenge the iPhone. Garmin’s ambitious Nuvifone will feature a totally touch-based interface, wireless Internet access, a browser along with a host of other Web accoutrements, and of course, GPS.

Garmin’s biggest assault on Apple will come by way of the Nuvifone’s 3.5G Internet access , which promises download speeds significantly faster than the iPhone’s much-bemoaned 2G access. Garmin has also challenged the iPhone’s ease of use with an usual proprietary menu system that presents three initial selections: call, search, and view map, along with a handful of other side options.
