Mobile operator Sprint is rolling out more WiMax-capable gear, announcing two new Sprint 4G Mobile Broadband Routers. The Sprint Personal Hotspot PHD300S enables up to four WiFi-capable devices to connect to the Internet using mobile data networks, while the Cradlepoint MBDR-1000 Broadband Router is aimed at businesses that nee to hook up as many as 32 WiFi devices to the Internet—and both devices support latching onto Sprint’s 3G mobile network as well as 4G WiMax networks where available.

Netgear Demonstrates 2009 Offerings
Netgear’s characteristically small CES press conference held few surprises this year, but 2009 promises to be a fruitful year for media enthusiasts with a need to bring content from the Web and their computers to the their TVs. The company’s general manager of home and consumer products, Vivek Pathela, demonstrated three of the 15 new products the company will unveil at this year’s expo.

The IMS platform enables new types of multimedia services on IP (packet) networks by utilizing IP and SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) technologies. NEC’s platform brings voice and data services together, allowing operators to generate new revenues by developing and deploying new varieties of integrated solutions. SIP enables services such as: Presence (a mechanism for sharing users’ status and context information over the mobile network), PoC (Push-to Talk over Cellular – a real-time half-duplex voice service), instant messaging and group chat.
