Apple Sells More Than 1 Mln iPhone 3GSs in First Weekend

It seems folks who thought the availability of a $99 iPhone 3G would cannibalize initial sales of Apple’s brand-new iPhone 3GS were wrong: Apple has announced it has sold more than 1 million iPhone 3GS units during the phone’s first weekend of availability. And, just to put the icing on the gloating, Apple offered a quote from soon-to-be-returning CEO Steve Jobs on the 3GS’s apparent success:

"Customers are voting and the iPhone is winning," said Jobs, in a statement. "With over 50,000 applications available from Apple’s revolutionary App Store, iPhone momentum is stronger than ever."

iPhone Fans Grate Over AT&T Pricing, Features

iPhone Fans Grate Over AT&T Pricing, Features

As expected, Apple once again captured the attention of the mobile world yesterday with the announcement that the iPhone 3G S would be going on sale June 17. But while Apple fans delighted over new iPhone OS 3.0 features and welcomed new features and performance from the 3G S, a chorus of grumbling—and even outright boos—greeted AT&T, Apple’s exclusive U.S. partner on the iPhone. Why? It all comes down to features and money: AT&T will not be rolling out support for new MMS and tethering support in iPhone OS 3.0 until late summer…and iPhone enthusiasts who want to upgrade from an iPhone 3G to an iPhone 3G S will be paying through the nose to do it.

Apple Unleashes iPhone 3G S at WWDC

Confirming long-standing rumors of a new iPhone for 2009, Apple officially released the iPhone 3GS at its Worldwide Developer’s Conference in San Francisco on Monday. The beefed-up iPhone will include a faster processor, better camera with video capabilities, and a handful of other updates, such as a software compass.

Despite an exterior that looks nearly identical to the existing iPhone, the 3G S has received a processor transplant inside, and up to 32GB of memory as well. Apple claims the faster processor will allow it to load Web pages and application up to two times faster in some cases, as well as enable better 3D graphics.

Bill Gates? Is Gone: What Comes Next?

Bill was and is unique in this industry and changed a lot over the course of time he ran Microsoft. He started out as one of the barbarians challenging the hated status quo and eventually became a part of the new hated status quo for the following generation. He, and Microsoft, provide a cautionary tale for Google in that just as Google has positioned itself with its “do no evil” model as the anti-Microsoft, Microsoft positioned itself as the anti-IBM and eventually became much of what it didn’t like as it aged.

Acer Closes in on HP, With Inspiration from Apple

I was at the Acer launch of their Aspire Gemstone laptop line in New York and was very impressed with their new showing. Of course the fact they started with one of my favorite driving tunes (eiffle 55s Blue  - which my wife hates) helped a lot.

Acer, now chasing HP for the number one spot in the notebook market, appears to be taking inspiration from Apple in terms of user experience and quality of design with this unique Acer offering. Let’s talk about what makes this line interesting and weave the Apple influence into it.
