GameStop Releases Black Friday Ads

Get excited gamers, because GameStop just released its Black Friday ads and it looks like it’s going to be a very happy holiday for the gaming folk. We think the most noteworthy Black Friday deals at GameStop are its Door Buster sales, like the Xbox 360 Elite Holiday Bundle and the PS3 120GB Holiday Bundle—both are priced at $299.99 and come with

Walmart Black Friday Ad Released

walmart-storeFinally! Oh Walmart, you sly dog– how patiently we’ve waited for you to reveal your Black Friday deals and savings. Today, about a week before the most epic shopping event of the year, Walmart released its Black Friday ads. The retail giant has been offering weekly deals since late October, but the real savings are being revealed today on Black Friday sites all over the Internet. Walmart.com and Walmart stores may be having different deals, so be sure to check where the sale is. Walmart will be open from 5am until 11pm on November 27th. It’s also good to check your local Walmart’s store hours–some are actually open 24 hours and may have different doorbuster deal times.

Apple’s Portable Gaming Emerges as Main Rival to Nintendo

For the last six years, Nintendo has been swimming high with great profits. Recently, however, the company announced that it would reduce its sales forecasts and reported a 52% drop in profits after sales of the Wii and DS game consoles dropped.

Nintendo is facing increased competition from Sony and Microsoft with cheaper consoles being more of a factor in the market. Nintendo is also facing stiff competition in the mobile gaming space from Apple with its iPhone and iPod touch.

Will PC Games Trump Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and Wii?

With rumors that a new Xbox is in the works, likely slated for next year, and sales dropping like a rock for every game system (ironically the Xbox appears to be holding on the best at the moment), I wonder if we are about to see a PC game resurgence. Windows 7 and DirectX 11 are coming, along with an expectation that Snow Leopard will actually embrace games for once. So are we months off from a smack down by PCs on game consoles, once again?

Aging Game Consoles

Picking a Next-Gen Gaming System

In a turn of events roughly about as surprising as Britney Spears’ and Kevin Federline’s recent divorce, there’s one question I’m inevitably asked more than any other this holiday season: “Which of the next-generation videogame systems – PlayStation 3, Wii or Xbox 360 – do you recommend?”

The answer, unfortunately, isn’t so simple, given each machine’s varying feature set, computing/graphical capabilities and a selection of games that, due to port-happy software publishers, presently varies little between platforms for the most part. Therefore I’ve taken the time to sit down and compile a little shopping advice for the benefit of intrigued buyers, who should read between the lines when it comes to marketing hype and largely incomprehensible tech specs. (Seriously… like most of us truly know what in Hades a teraflop actually is.)
