Toshiba Rolls Out Two More SLI Notebooks

Toshiba has added two more SLi-capable notebooks to its Satellite X205 line in the form of the X205-SLi5 and X205-SLi6. Toshiba is positioning the notebooks as the perfect companions for serious gamers, offering 17-inch screens, plenty of RAM and hard drive storage, HDMI and S/PDIF output, and (of course) dual Nvidia GeForce 8600M GT graphics. The new notebooks follow up on Toshiba’s first X205 SLI notebook offerings introduced last September.

Harmon Kardon Revs Up Guide+Play GPS Units

Harmon Kardon has announced three new Guide+Play GPS models that expand the sizes and options available in the company’s GPS line designed for the in-car navigation market. All the new units integrate navigation features with entertainment and multimedia, aiming to unclutter user’s dashboards and provide a consist experience.

The Harmon Kardon GPS-310 will offer both navigation and digital music player functions that can be used simultaneously and are designed to be used together: navigation info is visible even when music is playing, and users can set volume priority between navigation and music functions. The GPS-310 offers text-to-speech spoken directions, a 4-inch 480 by 272-pixel WQVGA touchscreen interface, SD/SDHC card expansio, 2 GB of internal flash memory preloaded with maps of the U.S. and Canada, and USB 2.0 connectivity.

Even though Toshiba announced its Qosmio G45 back in January—and started shipping it in Japan in February—the company has finally brought its entertainment powerhouse Qosmio G45-AV680 notebook system to the U.S. market, making it the first notebook system offered to U.S. consumers with HD DVD-R capability.

“Already Toshiba’s premiere audio-video solution, the new Qosmio is a remarkable step forward in the digital renaissance, in terms of putting high-definition capabilities and creative multimedia tools into people’s hands,” said Mark Simons, VP and general manager of Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc.’s Digital Products Division, in a statement. “Whether you want to immortalize a recent European vacation on HD DVD, simply enjoy the perfection of studio-produced high-definition films with stunning Dolby surround sound, or listen to music, the Qosmio puts a world of opportunity at our fingertips.”
