Samsung DVD-L1200 DVD Player Review

Quote from the review:

“The ultra sexy 1inch thick body on this unit with the trendy brushed grey and metallic finish is an eye catcher from anywhere in the room. If you fire this unit up on a plane or bus, it will be guaranteed that you will make some new friends and have people around you sharing the movie you are watching. Do them all a favor if you have your headphones on and offer them a headphone jack or turn on the English subtitles for them …and just make sure you aren’t watching porn or “dodgy” movies in public! =) “

iPod Shuffle Packs Quality Components

Quote from the article:

“Apple’s care is obvious in the appearance of the components, and innovations to improve how the unit feels when you use it. The firm didn’t hesitate to use expensive components when required.

The USB memory engineer was especially impressed with the sturdiness of the case: it doesn’t depress from the outside, and the headphone jack doesn’t wobble. Apple eliminated design features that made it look “cheap” and stressed solidity and strength. The iPod shuffle main board shows the same design philosophy in a number of places, such as the fact that the main board dimensions are extremely close to the interior size of the case. In fact, they are so close that it is difficult to pull out the main board. Achieving this requires precise control of tolerances for case and parts, and that naturally costs money.”

Apple Investigating iPod Mini Static

As we reported yesterday, several Apple and iPod enthusiast sites, such as iPodLounge, had noiticed a loud crackling or static noise in the iPod Mini. The noise was traced back to a “faulty” connector on the headphone jack inside the unit, according to several users.

Apple late yesterday released a statement that they were looking into the issue. “Apple is aware of a few isolated reports online of iPod Mini audio static,” the statement said. Apple also noted that the devices is covered under the company’s warranty, as many iPod Mini users had also reported in the discussion boards.

Users Report iPod Mini Design Flaw

Owners of the iPod Mini have been reporting a loud crackling noise and distortion since the widely successful digital audio player was released last month. The issue has steadily been reported in user forums and discussion groups and several posters in one group, iPodlounge, say they have determined the problem: a design flaw in which the headphone jack becomes stressed and eventually wears out.

According to a post on the iPodlounge forums, the headphone jack attaches to the main board via a small black connector that easily wears out with constant plugging and unplugging of the headphones.
