Averatec Rolls Out 22-Inch, Dual-Core All-in-One

Averatec Rolls Out 22-Inch, Dual-Core All-in-One

Averatec continues to roll out its line of consumer-friendly all-in-one computers designed to appeal to consumers attracted to the sophisticated looks of Apple’s iMac…but who may not be so keen on the price tag. Averatec’s new D1005 all-in-one features a 22-inch widescreen display and a 2.5 GHz Intel Pentium Dual Core processor…and prices that start at $799.99.

“Our latest offering was designed with the college student and business professional in mind,” said TrGem USA’s sales VOP Henry Hewitt, in a statement. “Its sleek design and small footprint make it an attractive system to sit on top of your desk without taking up a lot of space. As people downsize their office space and college students head back to the dorm, saving valuable desktop real estate is top of mind.”

Motorola Phone Uses Recycled Plastics

Motorola might be in the middle of a massive reorganization and looking to hop on the Google Android train…and that could explain the staid phone offerings the company has trotted out at CES this year.

The MotoSurf A3100 is debatably the most exciting of the lot, offering a 2.8-inch touchscreen, a 3.2 megapixel camera (and a second front-facing camera for video calls), a microSD slot offering up to 16 GB of storage, and a trackball for navigation. The A3100 runs Windows Mobile 6.1, offers Wi-FI and HSDPA 3G connectivity, and it’s most-touted feature is a fully-customizable home screen: that’s right, you can get rid of those boring default carrier and Windows Mobile icons. Motorola plans to introduce it in the first quarter in Asia and Latin America…although the company did not offer pricing information or say whether it intended to offer the A3100 in other markets.

YouTube Video Nets Cyclist 12 Weeks in Jail

You know, you might not be able to believe everything you read, hear, or see via the Internet…but that doesn’t mean nobody will believe it. Just as job applicants are finding that embarassing photos and claims posted to MySpace and Facebook profiles can interfere with their job prospects, a British motorcycle enthusiast has drawn a 12-week jail term for posting a video of himself driving illegally around Banbury, Oxfordshire.

Anticipating the Palm "iPhone"

This week there was a big announcement from Palm, one that could dramatically change what you see from that company. The result could have a big impact on Apple and the cell phone industry.

Not only did they get a large influx of private capital, allowing them to significantly enhance their ability to design and build new products, but the former head of Apple’s iPod Division, Jon Rubinstein, who also ran hardware for Apple through some of their best years, will take over as Executive Chairman of Palm’s board.

Contra Comes to Xbox Live Arcade

Gamers of…well, gamers of a certain age apparently have dim, dust-covered memories of a genre called the “side-scrolling shooter.” In these games jagged, pixelated backgrounds advanced from right to left across the screen at a fixed pace, and the player’s character, vehicle, or abstract collection of pixels doggedly forged its way from left to right, overcoming obstacles, eliminating bad guys, and racking up something called “points.”

(We understand these “points” weren’t redeemable for anything. Hard to believe, I know: we’re checking into it.)
