ViewSonic Enters Networked Media Market

ViewSonic Corp. today unveiled a wireless media networking initiative targeted at the burgeoning home networking market, estimated to reach $8.5 billion by 2008. The first products bringconsumers a complete solution for sharing digital video, pictures and music across consumer electronics devices.

ViewSonic’s product offerings include a wireless media adapter, the WMA100, along with two wireless media gateways, the 80GB WMG80 and the 120GB WMG120, to address growing needs for storing digital content and distributing it to any display throughout the home.  Superior wireless video performance is provided through the WMA100’s advanced video processing technology, while the WMG80 and WMG120 offer a benchmark combination of wireless routing and network storage functionality—including the ability to simultaneously view different files in multiple locations.

New Netgear Wireless Router Adds Storage

NETGEAR, Inc., a worldwide provider of technologically advanced, branded networking products, today unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show, the 2004 “Best of Innovations” award winner, the WGT634U Super Wireless Media Router, a “third-generation” wireless home networking solution that supports storage access off the router via a USB interface. It fulfills the emerging storage demands for digital-rights-protected entertainment content sharing as well as secure and remote web access to the home portal and files. In addition, the WGT634U enables super-fast wireless connectivity and superior range necessary in today’s connected home. The WGT634U and other new and innovative products from NETGEAR can be viewed at the Company’s CES Booth – South Hall #22652.

1394b hits home video and audio products

The availability of IEEE 1394b devices enables much greater distances and higher performance for home networking and entertainment applications such as whole house video and audio. The plug-and-play,quality of service and other ease-of-use features inherent to FireWire provide consumers with a user-friendly home entertainment networking system.

“People are spending more time in their homes enjoying video games, DVDs, High Definition TV and personal A/V content. The desire for connecting and sharing these applications among multiple users inthe home is increasing, and we see a strong demand for 1394b enabled products to move multimedia, internet protocol and data at high rates over great distances within the home,” said Belal Ahmad,business manager for TI’s Consumer Electronics Networking group.
