Speed Up Your Plextor Drive With Update

The firmware upgrade will be available in two releases. Release 1.04 is available today on Plextor’s website http://www.plextor.com. This firmware supports 2X DVD-R DL and 6X DVD+R DL on 8.5 GB DVD DL media, along with 8X DVD+RW and 16X DVD+/-R on recommended single-layer DVD media with Plextor’s AUTOSTRATEGY(R) recording optimization feature. Release 1.05, available March 31, 2005, supports 6X DVD-R on DL DVD media.

“This firmware upgrade demonstrates Plextor’s unwavering commitment to protecting the investments of our customers,” said Howard Wing, vice president of sales and marketing for Plextor. “Customers now can upgrade their PX-716 Series drive and enjoy the greater productivity that comes with faster recording speeds.”

Plextor Introduces Low-Cost PX-230A Writer

With an MSRP of just $65, the drive is specially designed for high-volume systems integrators, major enterprises, and OEMs seeking a moderately priced CD drive with high performance features.

Although the PX-230A breaks a new price barrier for Plextor, it includes Roxio(TM) Easy Media Creator 7.1 Basic VCD Edition, the latest version of Roxio’s award winning software. Buffer Under Run Proof technology prevents buffer underrun errors, so users can multi-task during a recording session. Superior 52X-max digital audio extraction (DAE) eliminates pops, clicks, and hisses for superior sound quality.

Plextor Introduces 16X SATA DVD Writer

The drive achieves blazing fast 16X CAV performance on recommended 8X DVD+R media, and burns a 4.7GB DVD in less than six minutes, one minute faster than leading ZCLV competitors. The new drive also supports dual-layer DVD media, enabling users to burn up to four hours of high-quality MPEG-2 video on a single 8.5GB DVD disc in approximately 28 minutes.

The internal PX-716SA drive features an integrated Serial ATA connection, enabling OEMs and System Integrators to leverage the benefits of SATA, including 150 MB/sec bandwidth, elimination of master/slave configuration jumper issues, a substantial pin count reduction, and thinner cables to help air-flow and improve cable routing.

Plextor Announces New 16X Dual-Layer Burner

The drive achieves blazing fast 16X CAV performance on recommended 8X DVD+R media, and burns a 4.7GB DVD in less than six minutes. Available in both internal (ATAPI) and external (USB/FireWire) versions, the new drive also supports dual-layer DVD media, enabling users to burn up to four hours of high-quality MPEG-2 video on a single 8.5GB DVD disc in approximately 28 minutes.

Plextor Introduces Video Capture Device

Plextor Corp. today announced the new ConvertX PX-AV100U Video Capture Device for mass consumer markets. The palm-size device makes it fast and easy to capture video by connecting virtually any video source to a personal computer. The PX-AV100U captures high-quality, full-screen video ideal for recording onto DVDs and Video CDs, and is the first entry-level consumer video capture product to include software-based conversion of video into the DivX format.

DivX, Plextor Announce Hardware Encoder

DivXNetworks, Inc. and Plextor Corp. today announced a partnership to enable consumers to easily encode and edit high-quality video content. The two companies also announced that the Plextor ConvertX Digital Video Converter is the first official DivX Certified hardware encoding and editing device to hit the market.

ConvertX allows users to convert video from a wide variety of sources to high-quality DivX video in real time using a Windows-based PC. The hardware device is used for consumer and business video applications. Before certifying ConvertX, the DivXNetworks expert team of video engineers subjected the device to a rigorous testing process to ensure high performance and interoperability with all versions of DivX video. The ConvertX Model PX-M402U is available today for $159 at www.divx.com/hardware.
