HP Announces First Handheld For The Blind

HP and VisuAide today showcased “Maestro” – the first mainstream handheld PC for the blind and visually impaired. Built on the HP iPAQ Pocket PC h4150 platform, Maestro is the most affordable and compact personal digital assistant available to the visually impaired.

Maestro features text-to-speech technology and a tactile keyboard membrane over its touch screen so the visually impaired can use essential information-access and communication applications without using a stylus.

Scheduled to begin shipping in September, Maestro takes advantage of wireless communication networks, such as Bluetooth wireless technology, and can be operated with or without an external keyboard (Braille or standard). Also, the device readily integrates other VisuAide or third-party applications offering users the latest innovations in handheld PCs.

HP To Provide iPAQs For Fairmont Guests

HP and Fairmont Hotels & Resorts today announced a first-of-its-kind initiative to bring mobile technology to members of Fairmont’s guest recognition program, Fairmont President’s Club, with the use of wireless-enabled HP iPAQ Pocket PCs during their business or leisure stay.

Providing quick and easy access to instant messaging programs as well as personal and corporate e-mail, the HP iPAQ Pocket PC h1940 equipped for wireless connectivity gives Fairmont guests a new way to stay connected while on the road.

HP ships new low cost iPAQ

Building on the success of the recently announced HP iPAQ h1940 and h1945 models, the h1935 offers consumers and mobile professionals integrated expansion in a slim and sleek design that fits into almost any pocket or purse.

“The HP iPAQ Pocket PC h1935 brings affordable and feature-rich mobile computing to the broader market,” said John Dayan, director, HP Handheld and Wireless Business Unit, Americas. “Its slim size and integrated expansion allows consumers and mobile professionals the ability to be productive in and out of the office.”

New models include the HP iPAQ h2210, the smallest dual slot pocket PC; the HP iPAQ Pocket PC h1940, a slim, value-pricedpocket PC; and the HP iPAQ h5150 and h5550, which include a 128-MB RAM power machine.

HP iPAQ Pocket PCs, the No. 1 selling Pocket PC family worldwide,(1) include common features such as a brilliant and vivid transflective display, a secure digital input/output (SDIO) expansion slot allowing for additional storage and capability, removable batteries, mobile printing software, and the company’s exclusive iPAQ Image Viewer for viewing images and creating slide shows.
