I just got to mess with an incredible $100 PC that is being compared to Apple in terms of ease of use, uses Linux as its core OS (but conceals the complexity of Linux, much like OSX conceals the complexity of UNIX), and is at the outset, a Web 2.0 device leveraging heavily its connectivity to create the Apple experience for a fraction of the cost. It does have a monthly charge of about $13, which covers the online services and allows the initial price of the PC to get down to $99, but it may reflect the future of Web 2.0 computing, and it’s worth a look.

JVC DLA-HD1 Offers HD, 15,000-to-1 Contrast
Audio and Video gear maker JVC today announced its DLA-HD1 home threater projector, offering full HD capability and a 15,000-to-1 contrast ratio which—as of today, anyway—is the highest in the industry.
“High definition TV content is now widely available and a growing number of consumers are ready to move up to screen sizes that only a front projector system can provide,” explained Mike Holmes, VP of JVC America’s Consumer Display Division, in a release. “With the introduction of our DLA-HD1, a top-performing front projection system is now a real alternative for a broad range of consumers.”
JVC DLA-RS1 Projector: 15,000-to-1 Contrast
JVC has upped the ante for home theater projectors with its new DLA-RS1 projector, which not only supports high-definition video up to 1080p resolution, but offers a native contrast ratio of 15:000:1 without using a dynamic iris or other contrast-enhancing tools.
"As the flagship of our References Series product line, the DLA-RS1 is packed with advanced technologies at an affordable price, further enhancing JVC’s projector line-up," said Carl Mandelbaum, JVC Professional Products’ national marketing manager for display products in a statement. "Our research and development team continue to deliver the highest quality projectors for the home theater market."
JVC to Push Projector Contrast to 10,000:1
JVC has announced that it has developed new display technology for home cinema front projectors which will not only offer full 1080p HD resolution, but also offer contrast ratios up to 10,000:1.
The new system operates using three 0.7-inch two-megapixel D-ILA (Digital Image Light Amplifier) devices which each offer a full 1,920 by 1080 native resolution. D-ILA technology eliminates gridding and that dreaded Moiré effect found in so many projector display technologies; according to JVC, their new system allows for an aperture ratio of more than 90 percent so projected images have a smooth, film-like quality. JVC says that the new technology, combined with the company’s new optical systems, offer contrast ratios of 10,000: 1 and brightness level of 800 lumens.
JVC Expands HD-ILA Rear Projection Line
First offered in 52- and 61-inch screen sizes, JVC will add 56- and 70-inch sets this year. The company will market 720p versions in all four screen sizes, plus 1080p 61- and 70-inch sets. All of JVC’s HD-ILA rear projection TVs use the company’s three-chip D-ILA (Direct-drive Image Light Amplifier) technology that has been used for many years in the company’s high performance professional video projectors.
Vidikron Ships 3-Chip D-ILA Projector
The Model 60 offers high quality home theater video performance in a chassis with Italian inspired styling and a soft white finish to blend seamlessly with any decor.
The Model 60’s optical light engine design and Vidikron’s incorporation of three D-ILA chips, rather than a lower cost one-chip design, result in low noise without the flicker and the “rainboweffect†that often plague one-chip digital video display devices. Vidikron engineers also paid careful attention to accurate gray scale tracking and true 6500K color reproduction capability.
Silicon Optix Announces Realta Chip
“After three years of collaboration between Silicon Optix and Teranex, the highly anticipated end result is now unveiled,†said Paul Russo, chairman and CEO, Silicon Optix. “The Realta chip incorporates revolutionary technologies that will drive the next wave of digital video processing, and is targeted to set a new standard in video quality.â€
Teranex’s co-founder Jed Deame added “Realta’s HQV technology matches, and in many cases exceeds, the industry leading video processing seen in the $60k Teranex 3RU Xantus system, dramatically raising the bar for home theater picture quality.â€
JVC Introduces DLA-HD2K Projector
The DLA-HD2K projector incorporates a new full HD resolution D-ILA (Direct-Drive Image Light Amplifier) device that produces images with superior clarity and resolution.
The projector accepts a diverse range of video sources including analog television broadcasts, HDTV signals from broadcast satellite (BS) and terrestrial digital television broadcasts, and standard definition (SD) images from DVD players. All images are projected at full HD (1920×1080; 2.1 mega-pixels) resolution to produce precise, even picture quality that enables consumers to reproduce the cinematic experience at home.

Vidikron Unveils Two New Projectors
The Vision Model 60 uses three native 16:9 aspect ratio D-ILA chips, and has a high definition resolution of 1400 x 788. Light output is measured at 17.9 foot-Lamberts using Vidikron’s CinemaStandards Measurement System (CSMS), and 1000 ANSI lumens. Contrast ratio is given at 800:1. The multi-standard Model 60 offers an array of inputs including DVI with HDCP, and its compact,Italian-inspired chassis design weighs only 20 pounds.
Vidikron has also introduced the Vision Model 100, a high light output projector, featuring Vidikron’s LightAmp LCD technology. It is intended for upper-end home theater applications where highambient lighting conditions exist, such as family rooms.
JVC DLA-HX1D* D-ILA home theater projector
