Imation Debuts its Smallest USB Drive Yet

It seems like just a month ago Imation was announcing that it created an even smaller USB thumb drive – and it was – but it looks like the company has wasted no time in outdoing itself. It announced the Atom flash drive on Wednesday, the definitive smallest drive in its line at just 1.5 inches long.

Imation claims the drive is “roughly the size of a paperclip,” though a more accurate description might be “the size of a stack of paperclips turned on its side.” Unlike the month-old Nano, which claimed its place as the smallest swivel-cap flash drive in Imation’s line-up, the silver-and-black Atom features a more conventional fully removable cap with a small loop for attaching it to lanyards.

Imation Debuts New Flash Drive

Imation, a maker of optical and flash removable data storage medium, yesterday announced a new flash drive which they say brings together “style, substance and security”. The new Pivot Flash Drive is available now in sizes ranging from 256MB to 4GB and prices ranging from $32.99 to $239.99.

The Pivot Flash Drive, said Imation, is set in a tough rubberized, water resistant casing and has an integrated cap which can’t be lost. The USB drive, which works with multiple operating systems, folds out like a Swiss Army knife and includes a keychain clip. It features reportedly easy to use security software with 128-bit AES encryption and password protection to help guard its contents.

Imation to Ship Water Resistant Discs

Imation Corp. yesterday announced a new water-resistant and smear-resistant surface for inkjet printable material. Dubbed AquaGuard, this new surface cover material should start appearing on Imation optical media in the second quarter of this year.

AquaGuard uses a proprietary surface which uses nanoparticles to grip and hold ink, locking printed images in place. This helps to resist smears and color bleeding when exposed to water or humidity. Imation said discs with this technology, which is already available in Japan, are compatible with all models of leading inkjet-based disc duplication and printing equipment from Primera as well as disc printable systems from Epson.

Imation Flash Wristband Bends to Your Needs

Data storage media provider Imation today announced a flash drive which can be worn around the wrist. The new Imation Flash Wristband will be available this month for $34.99.

The Imation Flash Wristband, which comes in a 256MB capacity size, consists of a rubber molding shell and friction fit locking band. The band is connected to a host computer by first unplugging it from itself and then plugging it into a USB port. It comes in blue and black colors.

Imation Ups Micro Hard Drive Storage Size

Imation Corp, a maker of removable data storage medium, today unveiled a 4GB version of its Micro Hard Drive line. This new storage option is priced at $189 and should be available now.

Imation’s Micro Hard Drives, the company said, measure 1.61” x .66” x 3.3” and feature a flexible USB 2.0 connector which can be used to lock directly into a USB port or be used to clip the drive to a belt loop or keychain. The Micro Hard Drives use 128-bit encryption and security software to protect their data contents. The software can also do file synchronization and compression.

Imation Announces New Swivel Flash Drive

Storage media maker Imation today announced an addition to their line up of USB 2.0 Swivel Flash Drives. The new Swivel Pro Flash Drive is available now in 128MB, 256MB, 512MB, 1GB and 2GB capacities, with prices ranging from $24.99 to $199.99.

The Swivel Pro Flash Drive, Imation said, is about the size of a AA battery and weighs less than one-half ounce. It features a “one step” swivel cap design which allows users to more easily make a connection to a computer’s USB port as well as a “never lose” cap when it is swiveled back into its original shape.
