Epson Develops Rangefinder Digital Camera

The EPSON R-D1 marks a significant milestone in the industry by combining the classic feel and precision engineering of a traditional rangefinder camera with the latest digital technology. It is the first digital camera allowing photographers to use revered L- and M-mount lenses.

The EPSON R-D1 links the future with the past — a new digital camera with a classic rangefinder feel. The EPSON R-D1 is comprised of a magnesium alloy exterior and an aluminum die cast body, combining digital technology with the traditional feel of a finely tuned instrument. The camera features a 6.1 megapixel APS C-size CCD sensor with a 1.53 magnification factor for an image resolution up to 3008 x 2000 pixels, easily producing output of 16″ x 20″ and beyond. The Epson R-D1 supports a RAW mode as well as two JPEG modes. Both JPEG modes incorporate PRINT Image Matching(R) II technology for optimal prints.

Epson Introduces C66 And C86 Printers

Both printers feature Epson’s exclusive and award-winning DURABrite inks, delivering fade-resistant, water-resistant and smudge-resistant results to preserve cherished photos and important documents. The EPSON Stylus C66 and C86 offer up to 5760 x 1440 optimized dpi with variable sized droplets to ensure incredible quality and detail, as well as a convenient and cost-effective individual ink cartridge system with true black printing on glossy media for more realistic and sharper images.

“Whether a customer is looking to print beautiful photos or important business projects, the EPSON Stylus C66 and C86 deliver water, smudge and fade-resistant, long-lasting quality at affordable prices,” said Lowell Wolf, product manager, consumer ink jet printers, Epson. “While both printers offer incredibly fast print speeds for everyday text and document printing, they also make it easy to share special photos.”

Canon To Give Printers $94 Million Boost

Japan’s largest maker of office equipment said it will build new plants on existing manufacturing sites in Fukushima prefecture, north of Tokyo, and in Vietnam, while boosting production lines at a printer factory in Thailand, which is currently running near full capacity.

It said the moves would lift its production of ink-jet printers, including multifunction and single-function models, to about 20 million units in 2005. Last year it produced around 10.6 million ink-jet printers.

New Epson Stylus C64

Epson America, Inc. introduced the EPSON Stylus C64 — the company’s most affordable all-purpose DuraBrite ink jet printer to date. The Stylus C64 replaces the Stylus C62, is available for an estimated street price of $59 and offers several features designed especially for value-driven customers who are looking for a simple printing solution at home.

The Stylus C64 is equipped with Epson’s exclusive and renowned DuraBrite ink for water resistance, smudge resistance and light resistance for durable, long lasting results that make it easy to preserve cherished photos or important documents. This printer enables anyone to print brilliant borderless 4″ x 6″ snapshots, as well as text and graphics with ease and offers up to 5760 x 1440 optimized dpi and variable size ink droplets — as small as four picoliters — for sharp, vivid output. The Stylus C64 is able to speed through tasks with print speeds of up to 17 pages per minute (ppm) for black text and up to 9 ppm in color(a).

“The EPSON Stylus C64 offers an outstanding value for customers who not only want a printer to handle their documents quickly and easily, but who also want to be able to print high-quality photographs. Epson’s newly launched Durabrite Glossy Ink Photo Paper enhances the printer’s photo quality on glossy paper,” said Rodrigo Catalan, product manager, consumer ink jet printers, Epson. “This printer provides one of the best overall balances between photographic output, clear text, high speed and low cost of operation compared to any ink jet printer in its class.”

The printer features a sleek more compact design and a DC motor for quiet printing of any output from the start to the finish. It is both Windows and Macintosh compatible and offers USB connectivity for quick and easy set up.
