Altec Lansing Debuts New iPod Speakers

Altec Lansing, a maker of consumer and professional speaker systems, last week unveiled what they are calling the SUV of portable iPod speakers. The new inMotion iM9 portable speaker system is priced at $199.95 and available now.

The inMotion iM9, said Altec Lansing, is the latest addition to the company’s line up of inMotion portable audio products. About the size of a lunch box, the iM9 reportedly has a hardy shell and rugged design so it can be used outdoors by those who live active lifestyles. It fits, syncs and charges all dockable iPods and can link iPod video and iPod photo players to a TV set.

Altec Lansing Offers Up inMotion Earphones

As part of its growing line of inMotion portable audio products, Altec Lansing today announced two new earphones which they say provides high-definition sound. The inMotion iM616 ($149.95) and iM716 ($199.95) are expected to be available later this month.   Both headphones, Altec Lansing said, are both in-ear listening system which combine the company’s audio reproduction background with Etymotic Research technology which provides 35db of noise isolation. The inMotion iM616 features enhanced bass, while the inMotion iM716 features that as well as high definition audio modes, enabling users to choose one or the other with an in-line controller located on the cable.   Both units weigh less than an ounce and come with multiple ear tips to best fit the user’s ear for comfort.   "We launched our inMotion brand of portable audio speakers in 2003 and quickly captured 80% market share. These new earphones extend our portable franchise into the wearable audio arena, and they address the same demand for upscale personal audio as our mobile docks for the iPod and other consumer electronics," said Robert Heiblim, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Altec Lansing.

Altec Lansing inMotion iM3 Speaker System

Quote from the review:

“White plastic is everywhere! Seriously, you can’t toss a dead video card out your window anymore without hitting someone with an iPod strapped to his or her hip. Apple’s ubiquitous hard-drive-based personal music player is now intricately woven into the fabric of pop culture. And this fact has, of course, spawned a wave of aftermarket add-ons and clip-ons… in oceans of pristine bone-white PVC.

Altec Lansing has not excluded themselves from jumping on the bandwagon with the likes of Belkin and Bose. Should you find yourself in need of a set of external speakers for your precious palm-topped musical gigabytes, take a gander at Altec’s inMotion iM3 portable audio system. But is it worthy of wearing the white?”

Building on the audio and design breakthroughs that made inMotion an instant hit with critics from Rolling Stone, PC Magazine, CNET, the Wall Street Journal and many other publications–as well as iPod customers the world over–Altec Lansing has given the new iM3 greater features and functionality. The updated iM3 design, for example, sports a perforated aluminum grillwork over its four full-range, custom-designed 1″ neodymium micro drivers. A brand-new hinge system makes the unit easier to open and close; also included are an assortment of docking bay adapters for the growing iPod family of products.
