At a press event in New York, Hewlett Packard has announced its largest launch of iPAQ mobile productivity products aimed at business professionals. But it wasn’t all gear aimed at the suit-and-tie crowd: HP also took a note from its recently acquired Voodoo PC division and introduced the Blackbird 002 PC aimed strictly at gamers, and a new suite of mobile entertainment services.

HP’s iPaq 500 Aims at Smartphone Market
Hewlett-Packard has decided to enter the cell phone business, taking the wraps off its iPaq 500 series Voice Messenger. The iPaq 500 is aimed to meet to telephony needs of mobile professionals via both standard mobile phone service and VoIP, while providing on the go Internet and productivity computing capabilities via Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and the application support of Windows Mobile 6.0.
"Busy professionals are constantly flooded with email and looking for ways to quickly and easily manage it and move on with their day," said Dave Rothschild, VO of HP’s Handheld Business Unit. "Our HP iPAQ Voice Messenger smartphone gives mobile users an easy way to manage all types of communications and stay focused on their business."

HP Debuts New iPAQ Handheld
Hewlett Packard said today they were launching a new HP iPAQ handheld known as the HP iPAQ hw6900 Mobile Messenger. Set to debut in the late spring, pricing and availability in world markets will depend upon specific wireless carriers.

Cingular, HP Debut hw6500 Mobile Messenger
Hewlett Packard and cellular provider Cingular Wireless today premiered the HP iPaq hw6500 series Mobile Messenger. It will be available for sale on Oct. 31 with a retail price of $449 with a two year contract.
The quad band hw6500 is the first Pocket PC in the United States to use Cingular’s high speed Edge wireless data network. It will be available in two versions – one with a 1.3 megapixel digital camera and one without – and weighs less than six ounces.
HP Launches New iPaq’s, Mobile Printer
We are sure HP doesn’t want to steal any thunder from the Microsoft/Palm deal that was announced today, but isn’t this perfect timing? ;) Today’s introduction includes the new HP iPaq rx1950 series, the iPaq hx2000 series Pocket PC and the HP Deskjet 460 mobile printer in addition to the Microsoft Windows Mobile 5.0 upgrade.
The iPaq hx2000 series includes the iPaq hx2790 Pocket PC which features in integrated biometric fingerprint sensor, while the rx1950 series comes with integrated WiFi 802.11b (sorry folks, no g here), Secure Digital memory expansion and a removeable battery back.
HP, Cingular Team for New Pocket PC Phones
Cingular got some new hardware yesterday from Hewlett Packard for their users to play with. The HP iPAQ Pocket PC h6300 series offers users of this wireless provider three types of wireless capabilities.
The HP iPAQ h6300 series comes loaded with Windows Mobile 2003 software and incorporates GSM quad-band capabilities to make it usable around much of the globe. It addition, it also offers built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth wireless technologies for those times when a different type of unwired connection is desired. The Wi-Fi connection also has a special feature which automatically connects to the strongest network and automatically switches to an alternate if the primary drops.

Astronauts Get iPAQ’s At Space Station

The iPAQ h5550 and accompanying accessories were launched on April 19, exactly four years after the introduction of the first iPAQ Pocket PC.
The iPAQs will be used as mobile productivity tools to record daily crew procedures, write personal memos and check e-mail and calendars. The space crew will also be able to listen to music, view photos from home and read e-books, allowing them to have some of the comforts of home on their journey. The devices will remain aboard the space station and be reconfigured for each new crew. For the next flight, two additional iPAQs are expected to launch to the station for a total of four iPAQs.
