Lenovo’s IdeaPad U110 Barely Tips Scales

Lenovo

Lenovo rounded out its new IdeaPad family of consumer notebooks on Tuesday with an 11-inch kid sister to join its larger 15.4-inch and 17-inch offerings. The tiny IdeaPad U110 will serve as the most mobile computer in the line, and also the priciest.

Making weight a priority, Lenovo has kept the U110 to less than 2.5 pounds with the standard four-cell battery. To make the most of such a tiny 11-inch form factor, the notebook’s screen sports a frameless design, as well as a viewing angle Lenovo claims is “infinite-like.” The U110’s textured metal lid can be finished in either black or red.

Coleman Resigns as Gateway CEO

Coleman Resigns as Gateway CEO

A little more than a year after taking over the leadership position of troubled U.S. computer maker Gateway, J. Edward Coleman has resigned as the company’s CEO, leaving leadership of the firm in the hands of Acer executive Rudi Schmidleithner. Taiwanese computer maker Acer recently completed its $710 million acquisition of Gateway, simultaneously giving it a foothold in the North American market while foiling rival Lenovo’s aspirations in both North America and Europe (through a related, dependent acquisition of Packard Bell).

Westinghouse Reduces Prices on LCD TVs

The new pricing reflects a drop of nearly 25 percent for the W32701 and 18 percent for the W33001 from just 10 weeks ago. This latest move is part of the company’s overall strategy to reflect declining LCD TV production costs in retail store pricing as soon as they occur and lead the industry in making LCD TVs the television of choice for mainstream consumers, according to Douglas Woo, president of Westinghouse Digital.
