AT&T Wants You To Know Samsung’s Jack

AT&T Wants You To Know Samsung

Samsung had a bit of a mobile hit on its hands with the original Blackjack and BlackJack II, but had never officially announced a clear follow-on product to bring the line into the current smartphone universe. At least, until today, when Samsung announced the new i637 Jack will launch on AT&T on May 19.

“The Samsung Jack will be another hit crossover smartphone in the tradition of the BlackJack and BlackJack II,” said AT&T Mobility Corporation VP Mike Woodward, in a statement. “The BlackJack series has been the number one selling franchise in Windows Mobile history.”

Sharp Aquos Net TVs Get Web-Delivered Games

Owners of Sharp’s new Aquos Net televisions with built-in Web functionality can stop debating which console to buy… and just start playing games playing through their TVs. On Thursday, Accedo broadband launched Funspot for Aquos Net televisions.

Sharp unveiled Aquos Net at the beginning of the year with the promise that more features beyond its rather basic initial offerings would be forthcoming, and Accedo has helped deliver on that promise. Users will be able to sign into Funspot and access an established library of casual games through the service, which is already available on some other IPTV and consumer electronics devices.

AOL has released the latest version of its instant messaging application, AIM 6.5 for Windows. The new version doesn’t offer any new compatibility with other instant messaging services (e.g., Windows Live Messenger, Yahoo Messenger, Jabber, etc.) but does add features that let users stream their buddies’ non-DRM-protected music, more easily message cell phones, and tap into multiplayer casual games.

Disney to Set Sail with Free Pirates MMORPG

Disney to Set Sail with Free Pirates MMORPG

Disney is getting set to release the third (and presumably final) film installment of its newfound Pirates of the Caribbean franchise this May, but rather than let things slowly settle to a natural end at the bottom of the briny blue, the company is looking to extend the franchise into new media because…well, just because it’s the last movie (for now!) doesn’t mean the money-making has to end, right?

To that end, Disney Online plans to launch a new Pirates of the Caribbean massively multiplayer online role playing game this spring—but instead of putting it in a box and shipping it off to Disney-owned shelves at Disney-controlled retail outlets, the game will be available via a free download from the game Web site.

The companies say they also plan to run their homebrewed shows IGPX, NT Warrior, and Zoids Genesis.

The new Cracked.com will be updated five times a week. Wi-Fi Wall Jacks To Enable Wireless Grid

“Billed as the “world’s first” Wi-Fi wall outlet, the Wi-Jack includes Aruba’s wireless access-point radio technology built into a standard data wall outlet. It will reduce the cost of installing a wireless access point from $1,500 or more to around $125, the vendors say. That will let businesses install more wireless access points, creating a “wireless grid” that will result in a network with a greater data-carrying capacity than a conventional wireless network, says Merwyn Andrade, Aruba’s chief technology officer. A wireless grid can also provide more-accurate asset-tracking and location-tracking services than a regular wireless network, he says. “
