The Force Is With…The Force

The Force Is With...The Force

Using the Freedom of Information Act, Jane’s Police Review has obtained information showing that eight officers of Strathclyde Police in Scotland claim Jedi as their religion on diversity forms.

Additionally, two civilian staff claim to follow the Star Wars religion. That’s from a total of 8,200 police officers and 2,800 civilian staff. No other UK force had Jedi members.

Jane’s Police Review editor Chris Herbert told the BBC:

"The Force appears to be strong in Strathclyde Police with their Jedi police officers and staff.”

BenQ Joybook R45 Sports Leathery Finish

BenQ Joybook R45 Sports Leathery Finish

Plastic and metal may be the de facto standards for plain-Jane laptop construction, but when it comes to making one look nice, nothing says class quite like leather. Besides a brown faux leather panel spanning the lid, the R45 gets bright aluminum trim inside and a crimson pinstripe. The lid closes using latchless design, and buttons, such as those for Wi-Fi, are spring-loaded for a smoother clicking action.

Online Activism Gets a Boost from ThinkMTV

Online Activism Gets a Boost from ThinkMTV

Activism isn’t easy, but MTV is doing its best to make it a little more convenient for the average Joe and Jane. The television network attempted to light a fire under young do-gooders on Friday with the launch of ThinkMTV, a social network that makes activism its mission.

The site’s motto: “Get Educated, Get Connected, Get Heard, Get Active and Get Rewarded.  Parts of the site are aimed at accomplishing each of these things. Videos, blogs, video games, podcasts, news reports and pictures are supposed to get young people up to speed on issues. Organizing into like-minded “Think Tanks” allows them team up for a cause. The most productive members will have a shot at appearing on MTV, and other rewards will include scholarships, grants, and event tickets.

MSN: Back to Online Video with Originals

At a conference for online advertisers at its Redmond headquarters today, computing titan Microsoft plans to announce it’s bringing video back to its MSN online service, this time focussing on free made-for-MSN programming dubbed “MSN Originals.”

The shows will be produced in conjunction with Hollywood production company Reveille (behind The Office, as well as reality shows The Biggest Loser and Bravo’s Blow Out) and Be Jane, a producer of branded women’s home-improvement and do-it-yourself programming.

MSN Originals ties in directly with Microsoft’s efforts to increase traffic flow (and eyeballs) for advertising revenue carried on the service, and to that end advertisers will have an opportunity to be integrated with the new MSN programming beginning at the early stages of production.
