WD ShareSpace Aims at Small Offices

Western Digital has taken the wraps off its first storage solution aimed explicitly at the small office market—although we’re sure a few folks with home networks might be interested too. The new WD ShareSpace systems are a four-bay solution offering capacities of up to 4 TB, along with gigabit Ethernet and ease of use designed to make the systems an easy transition for folks already using the company’s external drives.

WD’s Passport Portable Drives Hit 320 GB

WD

WD—a.k.a. Western Digital—has unveiled a new 320 GB version of its Passport portable hard drive. The unit weighs less than 5 ounces, and, since it can power itself off a USB 2.0port, there’s no awkward power brick to carry around in order to access data. The drive also comes with WD Sync software to make it easier for consumers to take their desktop content with them, along with 128-bit encryption technology to keep the data secure.

Dual-Drive My Book Hard Drives Go to 2 TB

Dual-Drive My Book Hard Drives Go to 2 TB

In a short amount of time the number of hard drive vendors offering 2 TB storage solutions to everyday consumers has grown from “barely any” to a respectable collection. That group is now even larger, as Western Digital announces that all its dual-drive My Book external hard drives are now available in 2 TB capacities. The dual-drive models are handily identified by the Roman numeral II after their name, so the models offering 2 TB of storage are the My Book World Edition II, My Book Pro Edition II, and the My Book Premium Edition II.

Western Digital Delivers Small Drive

Western Digital yesterday announced a new miniature USB hard drive storage device which can reportedly store as many as five two hour feature length movies, 1,700 digital photos, 1,500 songs or thousands of documents. The new WD Passport Pocket Drive is priced at $129 and should be available now.

The WD Passport Pocket Drive, said Western Digital, is about the size of a matchbox, measuring about one-third of an inch thin and weighing 1.6 ounces. This USB 2.0 device sports a 6GB hard drive and works with both Macs and PCs. Western Digital says the flip out, rotating USB connector on the Passport is thin enough “that two drives can be used at the same time in the tightly spaced USB ports found on notebook computers”.

WD Offers Up New Book Like Hard Drives

Hard drive maker Western Digital yesterday rolled out a stylish line of external FireWire 400 and USB 2.0 hard drives designed to stand vertically on desktops and bookshelves. The new My Book series is available in prices ranging from $179.99 to $349.99.

The My Book hard drive series, said Western Digital, has what the company describes as a “unique, iconic-book shaped enclosure”. The drives, which comes in a basic USB 2.0 version as well as a “premium” USB 2.0/FireWire 400 option, is designed to self install after being connected a computer with no necessary CDs or separate software to install. Features include storage capacities ranging in size from 160GB to 500GB, a lighted on/off button, quiet operation, shock protection, included desktop, photo and search engine management software and automatic powering on or off depending upon the attached computer’s power status.
