Inventor Judah Klausner—generally considered the “father of the PDA” for his work creating electronic organizers in the 1970s—has filed a new patent infringement lawsuit targeting Google, Verizon, LG, Citrix, Cox Communications, Embarq Corporation, and others for infringing on patents Klausner believes covers visual voicemail. And Klausner has some courtroom history to back him up: he went after Sprint and Apple with similar claims, and won agreements from them both earlier this year; Comcast has also reportedly struck a deal. Klausner also won settlements from Vonage and AOL, and, last we heard, was still pursuing similar claims against Skype and Cablevision.

Apple, Klausner Settle On Visual Voicemail
Back in December, Klausner Technology filed a patent infringement suit against Apple, Skype, Cablevision, and Comcast over a patent related to voice messaging and visual voicemail services—like the one offered in Apple’s famous iPhone.
Now, Klausner Technology says Apple, and AT&T have reached settlements with the company over its 5,572,576 and 5,283,818 parents, and has also reached a settlement with eBay. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. According to Reuters, Klausner is apparently continuing to pursue its case against Comcast and Cablevision.

Klausner Technologies, Inc.—a patent holding company founded by the “inventor of the PDA” Judah Klausner—today filed lawsuits against Apple, AT&T, Comcast, Cablevision, and eBay’s Skype service for infringing on patents related to voice messaging and visual voicemail services. The former patent was granted in 1996, the latter in 1994. Klausner has successfully licensed the patents to other parties, and has previously sued Vonage and AOL for infringement of the 576 patent.
Vonage: Three Patents and One More Lawsuit

(DPL) regarding the compression of packetized digital signals used in VoIP implementations. The patents are at the heart of litigation DPL was pursuing against Verizon, Sprint, and Nortel (now AT&T). Buy acquiring the patents, Vonage also takes control over the litigation and patent licensing agreements DPL had worked out with companies like Qwest, Motorola, and Time Warner. In June, Verizon sued Vonage for patent infringement, claiming the company’s VoIP product infringe on Verizon intellectual property.
