Toshiba Rolls Out WiMax Satellite Notebook

Just yesterday Acer took the wraps off two WiMax equipped notebooks available for sale in Baltimore, the first city lite up on Sprint’s planned nationwide Xohm WiMax network. Now Toshiba is getting in on the act, rolling out a WiMax-equiped version of its Satellite U405 notebook with a 13.3-inch display and combined WiMax/Wi-Fi networking.

The Satellite U405-ST550W features an intel Core 2 Duo processor, an integrated Webcam with face recognition, a 320 GB hard drive, 4 GB of RAM, USB 2.0, and (interestingly) an eSATA port.

HP Recalls 135,000 Notebook Batteries

Hewlett Packard, working in conjunction with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, today announced a voluntary recall of select HP and Compaq notebook computer battery packs. The total number of recalled products numbers about 135,000 worldwide, with around 85,000 being here in the United States.

The reason for the recall, as explained in this USCPSC notice, relates to an internal short which could cause the battery cells to overheat and melt or char the plastic case. HP has received 16 reports of batteries overheating thus far, with four case of minor property damage. No injuries have occurred thus far.  Read more...

Dell introduces new 2100MP projector

The $1,299 2100MP uses the latest DLP DDR projection technology to generate high resolution images at 1800:1 contrast ratio and maximum brightness of 1000 ANSI lumens for crisp video and graphics. An auto-sync feature adjusts the output resolution to match that of the input device up to SXGA+ (1400×1050) for true plug-and-play operation.

At 4 lbs, it weighs less than many midsize notebook PCs but still provides advanced features such as motion-adaptive hardware de-interlacing for smooth video playback, power saving auto shutdown and preset and user-programmable video modes for easy custom-configuration.  Read more...
