Google Music Search Partners with iLike, Lala, Pandora, and More

Internet giant Google is getting into the music business, integrating a new music search feature directly into its primary Web search capabilities. Now, searching for song titles, artists, albums, and even bits of lyrics will turn up audio previews of matching songs—along with links to purchase the song. And for folks who don’t quite know exactly what they’re looking for, Google will also display links that can help users discover music related to their queries.

To pull off the service, Google has partnered with Lala and iLike (which was recently acquired by MySpace) to provide previews and purchasing links; music suggested are provided by Pandora, iMeem, and Rhapsody.

LaLa Relaunches with 10-Cent Web Songs

Music service Lala.com started out in 2006 as a CD-swapping service, and later expanded into online music storage and streaming. Now, the company is taking that storage and streaming idea one steop further, eliminating the “outdated” need for users to carry around their MP3 and music collections with them on portable players, and instead offering ad-free, streaming access to tunes they own in Lala.com’s library—ad-free.

“We live our lives in a browser, whether it’s emailing, watching television shows or using Facebook” said Lal CEO Geoff Ralston, in a statement. “My music belongs online in the same way. Will there be anything without a browser in 5 years?”

Lala.com Offers Music Storage and Streaming

Lala.com started out as a CD-swapping service, acting as an exchange point by which music fans could swap CDs via regular mail for $1 apiece. Now, Lala is re-inventing its music model, offering to let users upload their entire music libraries to Lala, then stream those songs anywhere once a user logs into their Lala account—and users can even fill up their iPods directly from the site without having their iTunes library on hand. The service is available now in beta form.
