Turning the iPhone into a Home Remote

You can already use your iPhone or BlackBerry to tap out e-mails, surf the Web, and listen to music on the go, but pretty soon, you just may be closing the garage door, turning down the lights in your living room, and firing up the DVD player with them as well. The new Crimson Connect system from Zilog will allow certain mobile phones to act as home remote controls by hooking into existing home automation systems.

A Look On The Inside Of Nintendo’s DS

Quote from the article:

“Starting from the rear of the case, we first removed the screws holding on the battery compartment cover. This revealed the Li-ion rechargeable battery, with a discharge capacity of 850mAh, which was marked “Made in China” but with no manufacturer name. The Nintendo DS will operate for up to 10 hours from a full charge. The Game Boy Advance SP model also runs for up to 10 hours from its internal Li-ion rechargeable battery, but battery capacity is only 600mAh. The higher power consumption of the DS is probably due to the additional display and the onboard microcontroller, with two central processing unit (CPU) cores.”

Sony Develops HDTV Camcorder

“To support recording in 1080i mode, the firm recently developed a 4-chip IC set, the HD Codec Engine. Of the four, industry is especially interested in the chip handling Moving Picture Coding Experts Group Phase 2 (MPEG-2) encoding. The incredibly low dissipation — only about 200mW — is less than half that of most HDTV-capable MPEG-2 encoders. This low dissipation is important for cutting power consumption during recording to only 8.0W. With the largest Li-ion rechargeable battery, offering a capacity of 47.5Wh, continuous recording time is six hours and 30 minutes of HDTV imagery.”
