Alienware Notebooks Tout Sleekness, Power

Design-oriented computer maker Alienware has unveiled the Sentia m3200 and the Aurora m7700 notebook computers, one offering an ultra-slim and lightweight form factor for maximum portability, and the other offering desktop-rivalling processor and graphics performance.

The Alienware Sentia m3200 features a 12.1-inch wide-screen (1280 by 800) LCD display with either an Intel Pentium M or Celeron M CPU (ranging from 1.5 to 2.0 GHz) and Intel Extreme Integrated Graphics, a base 256MB of RAM, 3 USB 2.0 ports, a 40 GB to 120 GB hard drive, VGA and X-video output, a four-pin mini FireWire/IEEE 1394 port, built-in 100Base-T Ethernet, a 56Kbps modem, headphone and 5:1 digital audio output, line/mic input, an Express Card slot, and a 4-in-1 (SD/MS/MSPRO/MMC) card reader. An optical drive slot can accommodate either a CD-RW or DVD+/-RW unit, and wireless networking capabilities are optional. But what may be coolest about the m3200 is its size

Intel Copies the Apples Mac Mini

“Working prototypes of the Mac mini look-alike running Microsoft Windows and based on Intel’s Pentium M CPU have already been built by Taiwan-based PC maker AOpen, according to two sources in Taiwan’s PC manufacturing industry who have seen them. These sources added that the prototype was built at Intel’s request, and will be unveiled here at the Computex trade show, which runs May 31 through June 4. “

Analysts are saying that Intel will have a tough time matching Apple’s Mac Mini price point of $499 due to the high cost of the Windows operating system.

Sony VAIO VGN-A160 Laptop Review

Quote from the review here at Designtechnica:

“We didn’t give the A160 an award for a couple reasons. There is way too much preinstalled software and junk on the system and it can ruin the user experience. Sony also didn’t add a media card reader (other than their own Sony Memory Stick) and they didn’t include a scroll wheel. These should both be a given in a desktop replacement system, and why they left these out is beyond us.
