Toshiba Brings New Laptops To CES

Toshiba has brought several new laptops, as well as refreshing its Satellite series, to CES this year.

“This is an exciting time for the consumer electronics community—we’re dealing with a generation that is technically sophisticated, and responds favorably to innovation,” said Jeff Barney, vice president and general manager of Digital Products Division, Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc. “That’s exactly our mandate at Toshiba: We deliver laptops, devices and accessories that combine entertainment with innovative technologies, and every product on display at this show demonstrates those core values.”

Relatively unknown German notebook maker Cizmo announced one of the first Intel-Montevina-equipped notebooks on Tuesday, the CX15. Besides sporting Intel’s latest mobile performance processor, also known as the Centrino 2, the CX15 will include a high-end graphics card, and a slick black design.

Cizmo will option the CX15 with Montevina processors running at 2.26GHz (P8400), 2.4GHz (P8600) and 2.53GHz (P9400). All offer the same high-speed 1066Mhz front-side bus. For graphics, the CX15 gets Nvidia’s GeForce 8800M GTX 512MB card, which offers dual-view display capability and HDCP support.

Alienware Adds Penryn to Area-51 m15x

Boutique computer maker Alienware—now a subsidiary of Dell—has always had a penchant for choosing raw horsepower over things like battery life and affordability. The company is sticking to its guns with a new edition of its Alienware Area-51 m15x notebook, adding a 2.8 Ghz Intel Core 2 Extreme X9000 “Penryn” CPU as an option to the 15.4-inch notebook. The move makes the x15x the only 15.4-inch system on the market today to sport the 45nm processor.

In September 2007, Dell decided to specifically compete with its own in-house boutique computer brand Alienware by launching the XPS M1730 notebook, a powerhouse system featuring a 17-inch display, cranked-up Core 2 Duo processors, dual drive configurations, and a bevy of ports. Also available in a custom-themed World of Warcraft edition, the original XPS M1730s sported Mvidia GeForce 8700M GS graphics controllers with Nvidia SLI technology and an Ageia PhysX processing unit; now, Dell is cranking up the XPS M1730s with an option for Nvidia 8800M GTX with dual SLI technology, which the company claims offers a 49 percent increase in benchmark video performance over the 8700M.

Alienware Unveils New Area-51 Notebooks

Dell’s boutique computer subsidiary Alienware has formally unveiled its new Area-51 m15x and m17x notebook computers, aiming to pack for much power and storage capacity into a notebook form factor that even performance-hungry desktop users will have to sit up and take notice. Although Alienware hasn’t unveiled the full specs, pricing, and release information, available details may already have road warriors and avid gamers re-jiggering their holiday budgets.
